  1. I was browsing amazon.com and when I typed in Last Samurai, the search results provided me with the soundtrack, books, etc...but also this:

    http://www.completemovies.com/?hop=caswealth

    It said:

"Download The Last Samurai -- Get all the latest movies! Burn to DVD or VCD. (distributor) -- www.CompleteMovies.com"

I clicked through the link and checked out the list of available movies, and it listed a bunch of stuff that wasn't even out of theatres yet, but it claims it is 100% legal and the site is advertised on amazon. What the hell? Can anyone explain to me what this is, and how it is legal?

It's a Pirate site. It's all probably legal in the contry it's hosted (like lower Elbonia), but not legal in 99% of the rest of the world.

  3. Well that would be my first assumption...but it's advertised on amazon.com, which is clearly a legal American based site. So what gives?

  4. Looks like a sacm to me.
Click on one of the movie titles listed and it says

    Availability: HIGH

    Download Channels Open: 30
That suggests to me they are simply sitting on the top of an existing P2P network, hijacking other users bandwidth and charging you for it. Any legit site would use a single file format for all movies and NOT insist you use their own download software except maybe for DRM purposes.

My advice: Avoid it like the plague.

Hmmm, could this be a real legal thing? At $20 a year unlimited, I could watch a lot of movies Says AVI for the listings, but also says MPG, DIVX, and BIN formats. Which would you take? Make mine the BIN image please

It has this picture that links back to https://ssl.paytrack.com/images/bbb90x31.gif . I guess that would be one way of checking on this "service".

Just went back and looked up some of the Amazon's Referenced on google....

if you go to the links there is nothing there ... If you go to the Google Cache it's there looks like either google was hacked or they pulled the references...

    Just found this

    4. ENROLLMENT IN THE SERVICE

COMPLETEMOVIES currently provides an Internet subscription Service. The Service consists of a subscription plan whereby, for a fee and subject to certain limitations as described herein, you are granted webpage access providing links to the largest catalog of movie and video files using peer-to-peer software.
F'ing scam! Might as well use Newzbin or some such type of site.

I should add... no listing on the BBB web site that I could find!

Maybe this whole entry should go away. It only points to piracy on the net! I'm sure that The Return of the King is not available for legal download anywhere on the net. Someone should alert Amazon and the BBB.

So perhaps amazon.com should be shut down as well?

I think with 3rd party vendors on Amazon, it's like eBay - they don't take responsibility or claim knowledge of illegal activities others are perpetrating on thier site.

I remember when I was looking for a deal on Unreal 2003, and I saw "Used & New from $12.00" - checked out the link, it was someone selling "backup copies" on cd-r.

report them to Amazon, see if they get the boot.

  12. Yeah, I already did report them to amazon. We'll see if anything comes of it.

On a side note, since I don't want to clutter up the board with a new thread if I don't have to, I have some other questions:

    1. How come when you buy a DVD they can fit like 4 hours of perfect quality footage on the disk, but when I make my own I can barely get 1 1/2 hours?

    2. Also, I was using Nero to burn a DVD Video and when I added the files to it the total size came out to like 4,650MB, but when I added the same files in NeroVision Express, the total size came out to about 3,910MB. Why?

    3. Are dual layer disks and double sided disks the same thing?

    Thanks

first off, don't bump your topics after only having them up for an hour or two - bad form.

second, in answer to some of your questions :

#1 - studios are not only using discs that are twice the capacity as you (9+Gb), they have access to pristine-quality original materials and high-dollar hardware conversion tools. If you had access to 9Gb discs, film-scanning machinery and an original print, your stuff would look great....

#3 - no - dual sided has material on both sides of the disc. dual layer has two different layers on one side of the disc. dual sided, dual layer can hold 18Gb of total material on the four layers spread across both sides of the disc. (Stephen King's "The Stand" miniseries is the only DS/DL disc I know of.)

First off, thannk you for your reply. I haven't seen any dual layer discs on the market, only dual sided. Do they exist on the consumer market?

Second, I have been to my fair share of forums, so as far as etiquette is concerned, I don't need any lessons on form, thanks. I could have gone the easier route and made a brand new topic instead. Would that have been better? Didn't think so.

    Thanks again.

If you mean recordable, no they don't. commercial discs are pressed, not burned, and joining the layers is an extra mechanical step. I think we are more likely to see increased data capacity on a single burnable layer before we ever see a dual-layer burnable disc.

Well, since it's your topic, I don't think anyone can criticize hijacking it. But as to bumping your topic, you might want to check this forum's rules for posting:

Please try not to bump your topic(reply to your own topic) immediately, wait at least a few days.
Right when you post, it's underneath the green text about warez.
