Over the Christmas break, I had a lot of spare time to play around with ffmpegX, and noticed that when converting divx/ogm/avi to DVD, the mplex stage usually bombed out if the input file produced a combined .MPG greater than 2Gig. The default setting for mplex is 2Gig, which was causing the problem. After such a crash, I found that the separate Mux feature worked fine and created the DVD directory structure etc..
So it seems that the default 2Gig limit is over-ridden in the Tools section but not in the main process...

Yep!,
I have done the DivX to DVD conversion on around 5 films over the Christmas break, and the only one that went right through from start to finish was a 1 hour documentary that produced a .MPG file of 1.95Gig. All the rest were between 2.4Gig and 3Gig, and stopped during mplex. runing Mux from the Tools panel picked up were it left off on each..
