    Hi there!

It sounds like some problem with your burning method!

DVDDecrypter iso's are supposed to be one of the most compatible methods for burning. Prob is they dont work with DVD9's.

    Maybe you could try using:
    1. DVDDecrypter for ripping the DVD to yr HDD.
    2. DVDshrink for compressing the DVD9 to DVD5.
    3. Nero for burning the DVD.

No matter what you use for the burn (nero or other software), make sure you create a UDF 1.02 compilation and that you also have two folders AUDIO_TS (empty)
and VIDEO_TS (yr DVD files in it)
exactly as spelled above, caps and all, on yr DVD backup.

Hope the above helps a bit - you might want to do some reading on DVD structure as well!!

    Good Luck!

    Here we go again....

YOU DO NOT NEED TO USE DVDDECRYPTER TO USE DVDSHRINK !!!!!

Oh did I say that one HAS to use decrypter?

Suppose ya wanted to reauthor and produce one disk for the main movie and one for the extras... would it not be easier and more convenient to have all yr vobs on the HDD, rather than going though the ripping proccess again!? Also, I stand to be corrected, but is it not faster ripping with decrypter and the such rather than DVDshink?

Although i am very happy with DVDShrink and its capabilities, i prefer to use DVDDecrypter b4 it and IfoEDit after it, just to make sure i am not going to have any RCE glitches with my output! 8)

    Then what does THIS mean?

    Maybe you could try using:
    1. DVDDecrypter for ripping the DVD to yr HDD.
    2. DVDshrink for compressing the DVD9 to DVD5.
    3. Nero for burning the DVD.

Ok Ok i did type that a few mins ago!!

If ya could point me exactly to the word 'MUST' or 'HAVE TO' or 'SHOULD' in my above sentences I would be greatful!!

I would also be thankful if ya replied to my questions, namely:
    1. Suppose ya wanted to reauthor and produce one disk for the main movie and one for the extras... would it not be easier and more convenient to have all yr vobs on the HDD, rather than going though the ripping proccess again!?
    2. Also, I stand to be corrected, but is it not faster ripping with decrypter and the such rather than DVDshink?

....might see your post and assume that you need DVDDecrypter prior to using DVDShrink. Use Your Head. He is new. Also you may want to NOT confuse him(or her...sorry) with processes that he obviously isn't ready for yet....or stuff that he may not give a rat's a§§ about.

  8. Hi again..thnx 4 the info guys
I just managed to burn bruce allmighty with nero..only 2nd time i used it because it never seemed to like my pc [always crashed in the past]
saying it burnt ok is strange tho...it got to 100% seemed to be finalising dvd or wotever it was doing, then it came up Nero starting to burn, but just hung there and crashed pc,blue screen of death and all that..but b4 it crashed i guess it finished everything ok..because it plays on my standalone.
Now i guess its hard to tell if it was the media or burn programmes, because i used the same methods and got good backups in the past.

but thnx 4 the help...v much appreicated..

Good stuff popeye!! Glad 2 hear ya got yr backup sorted!!!

    Right then hech54!!
Had to resist flaming ya but ya really got sth going there!!

Use Your Head. He is new. Also you may want to NOT confuse him(or her...sorry) with processes that he obviously isn't ready for yet....or stuff that he may not give a rat's a§§ about.
WTF?? Ya mean to say that a newbie wont give a rats about DVD ripping to the hard drive, which is like the 1st thing anybody has to learn even b4 they even get a DVD writer!!! ??I mean DOH!!!
He/she might be new, they aint stupid!! Also how can anybody NOT be ready yet for using a DVD ripper??? It's a one-click application for God's sake!!!

Anyways, i provided the newbie (and YES! I did see it waz his/her 1st post!! Eye sight still ok in my old age!!! ) with the best method IMHO!!! I did not deserve to get flamed for simply suggesting to use a DVD ripper!!! I mean, DOH!!! right up until version 2, DVDShrink couldnt rip to save its life!!! (sorry man, its a great piece of work and I love it!!!).

  11. Good thing I read this "debate." I would've hated to thought I HAD to use Dvddecrypter to rip a dvd, the world may have ended

    this ain't a 'debate'

I don't think it matters if you suggest you rip first and play later and there's nothing wrong with saying you don't need to use DVDDecrypter and only Shrink. Everyone has there own requirements and both have their advantages but I won't bother listing them

what does matter is the way you say it

freedom of choice, ain't it wonderful

@popeye, do the DVD's play on your PC?

have you tried another burning software such as Record Now Max?. Your Nero issue sounds very familiar to another one where it does not finalize the DVD but it will still play

What version of Nero is it?. If you haven't got other software, you could try unistalling it and reinstalling it may be corrupt somehow

    I can address this.

DVD Decrypter ~20 minutes to decrypt to HD

DVD Shrink ~45 minutes to shrink

    Nero ~15 minutes to burn

    = ~80 minutes

DVD Shrink ~45 minutes to decrype [b]and[b] shrink in one stroke

    Nero ~15 minutes to burn

    = ~60 minutes

DVD Decrypter = Not Needed in most cases.

All numbers are based on personal experiance with a P4 @3.12Ghz, 512MB Dual Channel DDR RAM on a 1,048MHz bus and a 4x burner.

    Fair enough OldGuy100!! 8)

    I stand corrected!

I second the stuff about freedom of choice that MackemX mentioned as well!!!
I never said one HAS TO use decrypter. Simpy because DVDshrink does sometimes mess up the backup (either during ripping or compression) I prefer to have my vobs nicely ripped onto the hard drive so I can readily proccess them with alternative software!! Thats why I recommend it!

Actually there is another thread going on about this issue!

Anyway, didnt mean to start a DVDShrink - DVDDecrypter war!!!
    Peace!! 8) 8)
