It seems that I can't capture with Virtual vcr bigger than 640 x 480 without my system freezing anywhere from 20 minutes to one hour out - no dropped frames. Problem is I lose everything when the system locks up.
I tried 640 x 480 and it seems to work much better. I'll be converting to NTSC DVD.
So now how do I handle my satelitte TV caps? I'm using TMPGenc. Should I convert to 720 x 480 or should I use 352 x 480? These caps are to keep, so I'd like to get as close to TV / original quality as I can get.
Would converting up to 720 x 480 be less crisp, or of no benefit compared to using 352 x 480? I have a basic 36 inch TV - not hdtv.

Why not capture at 352 * 480, most sattelite broadcasts are at this or similiar resolution. Then when you encode stay with 352*480 so no resizing needed.

But wouldn't the capture be 'fuzzier'? I am trying to get as close to the original broadcast quality as possible.
Picture quality seems primarily based on bit rate. But wouldn't the picture be better capturing at as big a file size as possible assuming I adjust the bit rate when coding?
