Hi,
I am interested in adding my own selectable subtitles to a home made DVD. I know that there are videoedition programs to do it but,
- Does anybody knows which one is the easiest to use?
- Is there any freeware tool?
I would prefer to avoid reencoding my mpeg files. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi again,
No answer? I will give more information about what I am doing: I have a audio compilation in a DVD (30 CD + menús, but without video) and I want to use selectable subtitles to display information about each song playing.
I find Ifoedit complicated and I am looking for another option, very easy to use. Is there any recommended tool?

IfoEdit is the one I use. What's complicated? Click "Author new DVD", select your video, audio and subtitle file and select your output folder. Doesn't come much easier...
To create subs, use any text based subs, then (if needed) convert to .srt (with Subtitle Studio), then to IfoEdit .sup with srt2sup.

Mats,
Thank you very much for your answer and .... some more related questions:
- Subtitle Studio or Subtitle Workshop? What do you recommend?
- Chapters definitions and authoring carried out with TMPGEnc DVD Author must be re-made with Ifoedit?
If interested, you can find the procedure I followed to do audio compilations in DVD at the Spanish site www.dvdrspain.com (see http://www.dvdrspain.com/pafiledb3/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=237&PHPSESSID=9b33c2afc...652eeed6738314)
Regards.

I use Subtitle Studio to convert between various text formats. Dont know what SW does.
It's either IfoEdit or TMPGEnc DVD Author. The problem with IfoEdit is that there's no simple solution to making menus...

Thanks again.
Now, I see that my question should have been "is it possible to add selectable subtitles to an already authored DVD?"
Audio compilations usually have many tracks (albums) and chapters (songs) so that an easy to use authoring program, like TMPGEnc DVD Author, is really mandatory.

Here is a good guide using IFOEdit/VOBEdit/SubtitleWorkshop, but not as simple as you wish:

The major problem with this method is to have the right colors of the subtitles on authored DVD. Search the forums, especially last 2-3 weeks, you will find more informations, but not a definitive guide. I did it once and the subtitles color was green, not yellow as I intended, but I'm sure that can be solved.
At least one of these (expensive) DVD authoring programs can do that, but not tested yet: Sonic Scenarist, Sonic ReelDVD, Adobe Encore DVD + Encore Subtitles (http://my.dreamwiz.com/maidaro/Applications/EncoreSubtitle/Index.htm). Search Google with "Adobe Encore subtitles", you will find more informations. Be prepared for big downloads if you choose Adobe.
BTW, Subtitle Workshop is great, can do almost anything with subtitles (except subtitles for DVD, of course). I didn't tried Subtitle Studio.
Hope this help. Don't forget to share your results.

Take a look at this. I just founded:

Thank you very much to everybody for your answers.
Of course, I will share my results. For the time being you can look for my VideoCD Audio guides at:
