uncomp ( uncompressed ) is just as it implies, raw video data with 0 alterations. There is no readon to use uncompressed when Huffyuv is now availible ( free ). Huffyuv is like zip for raw data, it's smaller by a factor of 2, but there is no change to the data.

MJPEG is basicly taking each frame of video and compressing it with JPEG style compression. This can lead to compression factor of between 2-50 times smaller files over the uncompressed files. Just like JPEG it gets this compression by getting rid of parts of the video that are less perceptible to the human eye. Be careful, too high a compression ratio and your video will suffer.

I'll let another person takle the card question.

  3. I can't tell you too much, but from what I understand, the three real options are no-compression (which isn't really much of an option), huffyuv, and mjpeg. I think that huffyuv is a lossless compression. A 30 minute program (captured at 320x240) takes about 3-4 gigs. I haven't tried mjpeg yet, but I do know that it is a lossy compression. I am quite certain that an mjpeg compressed file will be substantially smaller (I would guess by 50%, maybe more).
