  1. Hi,
I have a few newbie questions. I've been doing a lot of reading and researching but still confused. Here is what I want to do.

    1. Capture video (in the highest quality - space is not an issue) from MiniDV using firewire.
    2. Editing the film & mixing 2 camera angles to make 1 angle for DVD.
    3. Outputing to DVD making chapter marks with pretty basic menu.

So which programs should I use for these steps?! Am I missing any steps?! I think I can do # 3, but which (basic & experienced) programs can I use for # 1 and 2?

    thanx

  2. 1. I use WinDV a simple, free utility for transfering the video to your computer.

    2. For simple editing I use VirtualDub. For more advanced stuff you may want to check out Adobe Premeire. And i'm sure others will have more suggestions.

You are forgetting a step. Encoding. For which I use TMPGEnc. Other choices are CCE and MainConcept.

Sounds pretty straightforward in what you want to do. But then again everything sounds simpler than it is.

What does this mean? I have put my home movies on dvd and to my knowledge have never done this.

Have you ever had 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 etc. camera angles of the same exact event?!

    And thank you tito13kfm.

  5. You want adobe premeire for advanced editing. Just dump all the video to your computer, start cutting and re-organizing on the timeline. Simple as pie.

Well I know what your saying, but I have music in the video and it has to sync up to the video since it's a performance. I almost wish I would highlight what I want and hit a button and it will switch it for me.

I think somebody else mentioned something about dragging a line up and down the video files... I would check but Premiere keeps crashing on me. Time to build me a new PC.

  8. Music is normally added later in post production, which you add in premeire.
