    hi,
Hopefuly i'm in the right forum & sorry if not .

    [enter NEWBIE here ]
I'm using TMPGEnc 2.58.44 and my first attempt went way better than expected , now i'm in the process of encoding a second file ,
AVI to SVCD or should i say MPG ?

Is it OK to go and burn to disk the first file while the second one is encoding . The second file accidently had 2-PASS VBR selected , & it looks like 50% done and 6 Hrs. to kill.
Also could i open up TMPGE again and start another file encoding?

    Will be using POWER DVD.
    windows XP
    AMD1700+ XP cpu
    768 ram

    TIA,
    lectrik

Encoding takes up close to 100% cpu usage so if your try and run a second encoder it will end up dramatically slowing down both of them (it does work BTW). It's best to run one and then the other. TMPGEnc has a batch encode function for doing one after the other, that's the best way to go.

As for burning....maybe at a really slow speed, but I wouldn't do it myself.

    ZIPPY,
Thanx for quick reply, but like a kid in a candy store, I'd started the burn process before your post & going to sleep , and the burn process looks like it 's still hung at " TRANSCODING VIDEO c:\ FILENAME\PATH " .
( It started but I sorta knew it was hung, as i went to bed)

    The encoding did finsh .
and I do recollect seeing something about BATCH in surfing the how 2'z , but this was my second time using TMPge ,I need to go back to read 'bout it.

    THANX AGAIN,

  4. I dont know if TMPGenc has the option but if you see an option called something like "Processing Thread Priority" if you set it to idle or low you could burn and do other things fairly safely. Though without the option burning could be a bit unsafe as far as the coaster factor goes.

    THANX,
I'll keep an eye out for it.

  6. Yeah it has it. Under the option menu->task priority. Assuming you did not change the settings before you started you should be able to burn a cd if the TMPgenc window is in the background or minimized

In the last window of the project wizard select "create another project for batch encode" and you can setup more projects. After the last project is setup select "create another project.." then cancel in the first wizard window and go back to the main window. The batch encode box should be open and you can save all your project settings, I like to save them in case something goes wrong. You can run your encoding project right then or run it at a later time. I normally encode overnight.

    OK ,
    a follow-up on second project encoded.Which play's without sound !!

I was making SVCD (ntsc film) not sure why i choose film but I did.
    with:
    WinAmp v.5.0rc8
    TMPGEnc v.2.58.44.152

    also,
I used the default settings if I could , which were:
    VBR 1600kbps
    55min / 650MB
Direct show priority 2 was selected for my first project,
& I might not have gone back to see if that changed, but ALL the boxes in ENVIROMENTAL Settings VFAPI are checked , which I don't recall from before .

    I didn't notice if : ES <Video+Audio> -or- SYSTEM <Video+Audio>
was selected in the stream type before starting .....
    System (A+V) is now selected.
It took about 14 Hrs to encode as I selected 2 PASS VBR (vbr).

The original .AVI was 53:13 min ..... the .MPG is now 88:35.
The size changed from 692,000kb ...... to 700,521kb.
I remember my first project as being an MPEG -1 & did notice the second as an MPEG- 2 which was grey & could not be chaged .

My gut says it's there , just not sure what i touched or needs tobe reset?
    appreciate any suggestions & help,
    as what to do first,

Are you following a guide? I would suggest it as you seem to be randomly selecting your settings. A guide will explain in detail what options to select and why. There's lots of them in the guides section over there <-<-<-.

I did follow one that applied to PAL & wasn't that exact in the adjustments for ntsc . Now i've just read about VIRTUALDUB being a program for converting audio to WAV. Also I just saw how while it is noted for not haveing the best reputation for audio, it appears that TMPGE can be used to do just AUDIO ONLY from the original . AVI .

i'm assuming you just drag & drop the new .WAV to the new .MPG but i'll look for the how to , and get back to the thread.
    thanx again,
    Lectrik
