I tried by using the device tab in the settings menu but it didn't do anything, set it to 1x and it ripped it at something like 9x. Didn't notice at first and burnt the ISO and it loaded in my ps2 but I couldn't actually play the game, just froze when attempting to load the part of the game wqhere you actually play(most menus loaded fine, except some were slow and I noticed the music in the background was skipping)
I assume my problem is the read speed because I wrote at 1x with good media (verbatime datalife dvd-r). Is there any way to check a completed ISO for errors before I burn it? I appreciate any help you can give me.
Jake

Don't use DVD Decrypter to copy PS2 games. Use Nero, RecordNow, or really just about anything else.
DVD Decrypter is for VIDEO DVD'S.
- Gurm -
Yep, use Nero -r media ONLY & get your ps2 modded or they won't play & oh search the forum too if you can.
why are you using decrytper? they aren't encoded. -
Duh!...dvddecrypter is the best free software to copy ps2 games...The read speed doesn't really matter...I never made any coaster with dvddecrypter...maybe you media and burner doesn't like each other...
Either that or the originally game is too damage for the drive to extract all the data....
Advice: well I don't know if this will work with DVD burner but back when we only have CD burner, I preferred using my cdburner to copy the image because someone once told me that the laser in the cdburner can read data better..
Hope this help! -
Uhh... DVD Decrypter is the best software to copy PS2 games?
ARE YOU HIGH ON ******* CRACK?
RecordNow/Prassi PrimoDVD is the best PS2 DVD backup software. Period. DVD Decryptor is for VIDEO DVD's. I'm amazed you could get it to copy PS2 discs at all.

The first guy wanted to know why DVD Decrypter was taking so long to rip his PS2 DVD's. I told him the answer - that it wasn't intended for those DVD's. You wouldn't copy DATA dvd's with DVD Decrypter, and that's what PS2 discs are.

Also Jacob wants to know how to SLOW down the reading. Not complaining about slow rip speed
Back to Jacob's question..............
The newest version of DVD Decrypter has a read speed setting. Though this shouldn't make a difference.
Don't use Verbatim, grab some good media (TDK, Fuji). Clean your PS2's laser. I take them apart, and swap the lens a few times with rubbing alcohol. Helps load times greatly.
The read speed wouldn't make a difference. DVD Decrypter make a bit for bit copy of the original. If it encouters errors, the program will stop. All of my PS2 back ups are ripped at 12x+ and burnt at 4x. No problems ever. -
Surely dvddecrypter needs some form of videots or ifo compliant file to rip, thus cant do PS2 games.

@elmotheteapot & Gurm
I have backed-up over 150 PS2 games with DVDDecrypter in ISO read\write mode and every single game booted and plays perfectly... If you don't know then don't post.-=[ JHMac ]=-
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it. -
I think that Nero 5.5.10+ or Record now 4.6 is better because they can write Image files, e.g. BIN & CUE & GI & can do CD games too.

dvddecrypter is a good programme for ps2 games why dont you try a different media because when i backed up my copy of lotr return of the kings that did the same and i was using ritek tried a datewrite princo dye and copied no bother just a thought
-
i have used dvddecrypter to back up ps2 games. mode iso to read then iso write only made one bad disc
-
I thought I was using good media, becuase these verbatim's have a real deep purple dye on the bottom of them(just thought they were ritek's with verbatim name on them) I am a complete newbie when it comes to all of this. These discs work perfectly in 3 dvd players and an x-box(movies not games)
Could anyone tell me where to get this "good media". I have all the major national chains nearby Sam's Club, Circuit City, Best Buy, Office Max, Office Depot. Again your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Here recently Verbatims been using CMC. Though other OEMs are posible. Head over to Best Buy and pick up a 5 or 10 pack of Fuji Film 4x. If they say Made in Japan, they are Taiyo Yudens, if they're made in Taiwan, they are Prodisc S03. They also have TDK 2x DVD-R $119/100, if you can find them in stock.
Walmart has a decent deal on Maxell DVD-Rs.
What type of DVD Burner do you have? Did you scan the disc for read errors? And, have you had sucess with PS2 back ups before, use that media.
I personally haven't had any issues with Taiyo Yuden, ProdiscS03, nor Samsung. Ritek G03 and G04 has had a really high error rate here recently, so I avoid them altogether. Seems like 100 out of every 1000 I go through ends up being duds, compared to 3 out of 1000 Prodiscs, and 0 of the last 2500 Taiyo Yudens. -
I have only burned about 6 dvd's all of them verbatim dvd-r's bought from Sam's club. My dvd burner is a plextor 708-A, I am not sure how to check a disc for errors like you said, so if you could tell me I would appreciate it.

The Sam's Club Verbatims were Ritek G03 when I bought some a few months back.
DVD Info Pro has a verification procedure, Nero CD/DVD speed, KProbe (my choice) works only with Lite On DVD drives.
Check for a firm ware update with your Plextor. Some people were bitching about horrid burn quality with certain media. The newest firmware seems to have fixed that problem for the most part. Not sure if it was with +R or -R media though. -
Here you go
Improved write performance for DVD+R and DVD+RW media

Thank you for all your help, I have already installed this firmware on my dvd-burner. I am going to try and buy some new dvd-r's see if that helps, again thank you for the advice on which to buy.
Another thing I was thinking about was, the game I am trying to backup has a considerable amount of scratches to the disc. I think this might be the problem, because the copied game would let me play but end up freezing after a while. Any thoughts??

DVD decypter is ok to use, make an ISO of the game and burn to disc, what could be easier, Gurms right dvd decrypter is mainly for video's, but in iso mode it doesn't matter whether it's a video or game, as for speed it doesn't matter. Its probably the disc your using or possibly a badly installed chip or worn / defective laser in the ps2. -
From what I can gather the underlying point that Gurm and co have tried to make is that DVD Decrypter is intended to be used to decrypt movies, not PS2 games. I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned that this is not a PS2 convention either.
I do PS2 games with Nero > Copy Entire Disc.
Makes me think about it.......If in doubt, Google it. -
I use RecordNow.
Put original in DVD-ROM.
Put blank in burner.
Hit "copy".
Return in 20 minutes, to find a burnt disc sitting in the freshly-ejected tray of my Plextor.
Works every damn time.

The game is Tiger Woods golf 2004, the menus load up fine but everytime at some point when you are actually playing golf or when the golf part is loading it freezes.
I am going to try backing-up another one of my games, if that works I'll know it was the scratches on the tiger woods disc.

I'm surprised also that in this PS2 copying post, no one has mentioned Alcohol 120% either. It even has a built in selector where you can pick like "Playstation" or "Playstation 2". I have yet to use it for that purpose, as well as DVD Decrypter since I have to wait till the end of this month to get the left over from my school loan check, then I'll be picking up a fresh Ver.9 PS2 with the Messiah Pro 2 mod chip. Let the copying, cough, cough, excuse me, BACKING UP begin!

THUNDER IN PARADISE have a look at this thread it says the messiah2 is breaking the version9 ps2 just thought you should no

Actaully Sunderland, I've read alot of posts at other forums, and decided not to go with the Messiah 2 unfortunately since they seem to cause a whole bunch of problems. I've chosen the DMS3 modded PS2 instead, and it should be in this week!
