any help is appreciated. When I play any kind of video file whcih has been captured by TV card or USB streaming from Sony handycam there is no audio. I've tried everything I can think of, but i'm no expert

Sounds like you may be missing a codec. Open the video file in gspot and see which audio codec it requires. Find, download and install the codec.
