  1. I'm trying to convert an XVid AVI file to SVCD. I'm using TMPGEnc 2.5. When the video is being converted by TMPGEnc, it looks fine in the preview window. The problem I'm having is that when I burn the CD and look at the video on my DVD player, the right half of the screen is green (green lines close together so it looks like one green square). I don't see this in the preview when the video is being encoded, so why do I see it on the burned SVCD? I'm using Nero to do the burning. The second problem is with the audio. For the conversion, I have TMPGEnc do the audio and I've tried stereo and joint-stereo at 128 kbps and 44.1 Hz. When I go to burn I get an standard compliance message from nero that there's a problem with the audio and that SVCD isn't dual channel. I turn the standard compliance off, and when I play the SVCD, there is no sound. Am I missing something?

  2. I think SVCD might need to be 48 Hz audio though I could be wrong. only made one once... and it did not work. Though i assume it was an amazingly high quailty piece of artwork that i can never view.

  3. First off, the audio must be MPEG Layer 2 audio and NOT MP3. If you use mp3 you will not hear any audio. The rule of thumb with audio is to set it at 44000hz (not 48000 wont work) and put the bitrate at whatever the original is, usually 192 or 224, you can go lower if you are worried about resulting file size. You shouldn't have any problems with using joint stereo, but if the source is mono just use mono, it works w/ SVCD.

As for the green screen, it's hard to say except that XVID can cause this since it is problematic. There are several different decoders for XVID out there and you never know which one works the best without trying them all.

The two most common to use are koepi and nic's. Don't install them both at the same time. Install one and play the video. Then uninstall it and install the other and compare the results. I have also ran into problems not getting good results with either codec, having to use FFDSHOW which seems to be working on all so far and with perfect results. Here are some links to try.

    Koepi's and nic's codecs.

FFDSHOW - try the latest stable and the latest alpha - both are different, latest alpha is the one I have had the best quality with.

Also you can search for the 3ivx D3 or D4 decoder which handles XVID as well as all the divx.

    Good luck.

  5. Thanks for the help guys. I fixed the audio by seperately extracting the ac3 audio and converting it to wav and using that as the audio file. The problem with the video was that I had the video resolution at 652x288 instead of 480x480. Once I changed that the video came in fine.
