  1. I use avi_io and when I join mpegs with tmpgenc created from consecutive avi files i sometimes get a noise where the two files were joined.

  2. Join them in virtualdub and frame server them to tmpgenc instead? That's what I'm doing at the moment. Either that, or have avi_io save up to a 4g file so you don't need to join, but then you're limiting your capture to under 4gigs.

  3. Or you can use virtualdub to capture, and frameserve again. There both pretty mush the same (though virtualdub has slightly more flexibility)

Yes, open the first segment in VirtualDub and frameserve to TMPG. Vdub will frameserve all segments as long the filenames are *.00.avi, *.01.avi, *.02.avi etc. Then you will end with one MPEG. No need to merge afterwards. If the MPEG is too big to fit on 1 CD, use TMPG's source range to encode in 2 or more parts. No need to cut afterwards.
