  1. I've made DVD's with success before but can't seem to get menus to have any interactivity for VCDs using Ulead MovieFactory 2 or VideoStudio 7.

The menus come up and you have to type the number of the track to start it, I'd like the menu to act like a DVD menu where you can use the arrow buttons and browse the clips on screen.

Any suggestions for Ulead or even other software programs where I could do this?

  2. You can not do this. (S)C/VCDs do not support interactive menus. You can only use the numeric key pad, the play/stop buttons and the << >> track buttons.

As you said, you can make a menu and then choose a feature with the numeric keypad but that's it.

VCDs don't support hotspot buttons like DVDs do but you are certainly not limited to just the number keys for interactivity. You are only limited to # keys if you are using motion menus. For still menus you can simulate DVD buttons quite easily and effectively. You essentially draw each button highlight and then use the next and previous track buttons like directional buttons to cycle through your menu's, and then use the Enter key to select the item that is highlighted. So basically, for each still menu you would have a different pic for each button.

It works EXACTLY like a DVD except that you cyle through the buttons with the next and prev buttons rather than the directional buttons.

Read my guide for a more in depth explanation. For a sample of how these buttons work download my test disk and play it on a HARDWARE DVD player and go to the language selection menu.

For full interactivity you are probably going to have to use VCDEasy.
