What happens when you try to capture with Virtual Dub?

I have never been able to capture through my ADVC-100 with VirtualDub nor have I been ever able to play anything captured with my ADVC-100 using virtualDub. I read once in the forums that to play a capture, I needed a Panasonic codec or something but it has never worked. I currently use MSP 6.5 Director's Cut. Works beautifully.

  5. Look in the how-to guides for video capturing with Canopus ADVC-100.
Basically, I am capturing into WinDV (freeware), and then I do my editing and conversions with VirtualDub. Default number of frames for WinDV capture is about 12:30 or 22500 frames or 2.7GB. I am saving my DV AVI files from Canopus for archival purposes, and I want to fill my DVD-R's, so I either drop frames to 18000 (10 mins) or bump to 36000 (20 mins). I am converting to DivX5.1.1 video with MP3 audio using VirtualDub, and saving the DivX encoded files for my viewing pleasure.

I am capturing 8MM videotape (home movies). If you have a single audio cable going from your source to the Canopus, your audio levels will be too low. Buy a Y-cable (e.g. Radio Shack, Fry's, wherever) and connect your mono output to the left and right jacks on the Canopus. Audio levels should be fine then.

Since I am more interested in quality than DVD-R space usage, I am converting to DivX at 4000kbps 1-pass.

Enjoy your ADVC-100. It's the best video capture device I have ever used.
