Can it play a DVD burned on DVD+R? Many DVD players are incompatible with DVD+R.

  3. When you insert a disk into a player, first thing the player does is try to determine the media type (CD or DVD). Once the media type has been found it will try and determine what is on that media. What filestructure/data types it will accept may change according to the emdia type. For instance, it is quite possible that as soon as your apex sees DVD media, it will only accept a DVD-Video file structure etc and not look for files/data of any other type, whereas when it sees CD, it probably first tries to see if it is Audio, the (S)VCD, then standard data (CD-ROM). Whne it sees CD-ROM, it then looks for file types it recognises such as mp3 or .mpg.

    Just an Idea.

  4. Teacher -

Believe Bugster has it nailed pretty close.

I also have an apex 5131 and it happily plays any +r disk I toss at it - as long as the disk has been burned to dvd standards. it WON'T play a raw .mpg file burned straight to a dvd disk.

  6. I'm not too sure about +R but my Apex 5131 reads -R media just fine. It will read raw MPEGS, JPGS, and MP3's just fine. This player was my replacement after my 600AD fried using a different power cord (I had an extended warranty). The 600AD wouldn't play DVD-ROM media but it handled CD-ROM stuff fine.

From what I've heard there are different versions of the 5131 model (the serial number has the model number plus a number 01, 02, or 03 after it). Those numbers differentiate the different kinds of 5131 players. I have the 513102 version, I'm not sure if the other ones could handle DVD-ROM stuff...

You might want to try burning a disc at 1X. My player can't handle some DVD-Video stuff burned at 2X (I'm not too sure about DVD-ROM though).

Hi Thank you for respondind to my question about apex 5131 and raw mpgs. I went out and got a liteon 411s dual burner today and burned an mpg onto a dvd-r. I still get a disc error from the 5131. did you change the book type or do anything special to get your 5131 to paly a raw mpg

    any help would be appreciated.

i am trying to avoid having to recode all mpgs to a dvd standard

    thank you

  8. The Ronin 215 will play raw MPEG and MPEG2 files on both DVD-R and CD-R - just be aware you can't get the data off a CD quick enough for anything other than low bitrate, so don't think you can stuff 7Mb/s plus MPEG2 on a CD and it play it back perfectly...
