Ok.. I'm trying to create a Rollover type effect in Adobe Encore.
I followed the information containted in the Classroom in a book files that i got from a teacher at a local highschool. And I still can't figure out how to do this.
Here is how my pdf file is setup.
Moe button is the default state, (=1) is the selected state.
But when i load this up in Encore and preview it, the selected state is only a white rectangle. not the layer that I have specified in the photoshop file.
Default:
Selected:
Hope somebody could help me out. If you need more information just ask. And I've tried DVD Maestro, but I don't understand that program at all.

What is the active state supposed to look like? Menu subpics are very restrictive so whatever the active state is it can really only have 2 different colors and no anti-aliasing IIRC. If Photoshop is giving you too much of a headache with menus try DVD Menu Studio. I switch to that one sometimes when editing Photoshop layers starts to aggravate me. Export as a basic PSD for use in Encore. Dunno if there's a newer version which supports export to Encore or not, but it would be nice if there was. I used DVD Menu Studio back when I was using Maestro as it supported output to Maestro templates but I still have uses for it sometimes.

It doesn't look like I can do a swap of picture like i intended.. so I just changed the ugly highlighting color to a nice greyish.. and that is working fine for me.
What I originally wanted was to have the reverse image appear when selected.. basically whatever was white would be black and black would be white. But try as I might I cannot figure this out.. maybe it's just not possible.. I dunno.. i don't think i'm ever seen it on store bought movies. -
There is a way to change the whole menu when a button is selected and in this way you can probably do what you were thinking of doing, however the menu change would cause a pause as the background changed. In this way you could use the same background but change the look of just the button that was highlighted to be something totally different. I did this a couple times with Maestro but haven't don't it with Encore yet. It ends up being more trouble than it's worth. Otherwise you're pretty limited with the color palette for the button subpic, certainly not able to do a negative image of that button.
Therein lies the other advantage to DVD Menu Studio. It allows you to see just what your button will look and act like on a DVD with a preview feature. While editing menus via the layer structure and naming conventions in Photoshop can probably yield the best results it is a bit tricky
