Since I had the day off from work I decided to use the time wisely and spent all morning reading every word of Lord Smurfs site. My hat is off to you and I want to say, thanks and well done. My time well spent and I look forward to the day it is complete. You can expect a donation next week when I get paid. I have 3 questions I want to ask.

    1. I plan to primarily use XVID CODEC with my captures. Can you put together something (or link to) on what the settings mean and what are the optimal ones to use?

    2. I am still a little blury on the difference between film and VHS. A VHS tape is NOT film and so it IS interlaced. When I capture my VHS tapes I should make sure everything is set to interlaced. Is this correct?

    3. You reccmmend using Huffyou or MJPEG CODECS for capturing. Then when using MJPEG use 18 or higher. Is XVID or DIVX considered MJPEG? If so, how does the quality of 18 or higher come in to play? If not, what is MJPEG and where can I download it?

Sorry for so many questions but I have done a few captures that were so-so and I want to do better going forward. Your site is the best thing going!

1- No experience here with encoding XVID. Not something I do. I'm all about DVD.

    2- Yes. VHS is interlaced.

3- Morgan MJPEG and PicVideo MJPEG can be found in the TOOLS section of this site. An XVID/DIVX is not an MJPEG.

Thanks, glad you like the site. Expanding with some DVD recorder info here in the future. Need to finish restoration stuff here real soon first. Spent most of the vacation away from the computer (though not the forums or email).

Cool, I look forward to more good learning. By the way, do you know how to get the icon for Margan MJPEG out of my tray? I will use it when capturing but I don't want to see it otherwise (LOL)

Also, what is the relationship to the quality setting and the final file size?
