In windows try to rename the file (from abc.avi to abc.tmp, be creative), delete the file.
If that doesn't work ... start a dosbox and navigate to the directory where the sticky file resides, delete the file with the del command. -
i tried renaming it but that didnt work. i have no idea what the other thing is.
thanx -
@jxD
The other thing is good old DOS.
press START > RUN and type cmd or command, a DOS box should be visible. You navigate to the directory where the avi's are by typing "cd foldername" and pressing enter. When you've reached the right folder it should show on the commandline ie. C:\WHERE MY MOVIES ARE>_
To find the right file type "dir" and press enter, once you found the right file you delete it by typing "del sticky file.avi" and press enter.
Hope that works for you. -
ok so i got the dos window open it says c:\docume~1\owner the video is in "my music" folder. i dont knwo how to get to there
thanx -
I guess your "My Music" folder is in the root of C:\ , just type "cd \my music" and press enter.
It should say "C:\My Music>", type "dir" followed by enter.
A list of all the files in the folder should be visible on screen, type "del filename.avi" and press enter. -
Had this problem myself even booting into safe mode dosent always work... Try this registry fix for it, its what i have done and things are OK now i can delete all part avi files..
Unable to Delete AVI Fix.
Open regedit and go to:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shel lex\PropertyHandler
Delete the value you find there.
This is due to XP (explorer in particular) trying to create a preview
for it. Now because the file is corrupted or incomplete,
it cannot read it properly, hence, it will not release the file.
This prevents explorer from doing this.
As usual, backup the registry key before deleting it.

Windows is trying to render the file so you can see it in the 'preview' window. It's a well documented bug. You can delete the folder they are in with no problems. You can also should be able to delete them all at once if you select more than one (if it fails, un-highlight the one that failed and try again).
There's a registry hack for it. You can also work around it by using the classic display (no preview column), or doing it in DOS (doesn't he 8x3 name convention suck? good luck navigating long filenames it's a ~ hell). Or even installing the correct codec to render the files.......To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
sark.bro , no it didnt work i try c:\mymusic and c:\mydocuments and nothing works
-
But what can you see in those folders when you do a dir command?

Hi to all and a happy new year to all the members of this great forum.
Don't know if this will work for you but it worked for me:-
Make a new folder and then left click the avi and wait a couple of mins or until you see something in the preview window and then right click and cut and paste in the new folder and then right click the folder and click delete, as i said it works for me

Somethings to try.
Change windows explorer from the XP view to "windows classic" view. Try to del.
If you have a Norton Ghost boot disk boot with it and exit ghost then delete the files from PC-DOS.
Go to the MSDN (microsoft developers network) download DOS 6.22 make boot disks then delete the files from DOS.
Run the XP Recovery Console and del the files from there. (if you made recovery disks)
