It was mentioned that at least a 400W power supply should be used when you have a Sony burner.

Has anyone else found this to be true?

I have a Sony DRU510a that wont burn to media that some others say it will (AN32).

I doubt that the power supply would cause an issue to burning. If you don't have enough power output, you would have memory and CPU problems first. Lockups and blue screens.

I have been using the SONY DRU500 with 6 hard disks, a DVDROM and a P4/2.67 with 1Gb RAM with a 300W PSU for almost 9 months without problems.

Not being able to burn specific media has been my most frequent problem and it was directly related with the f/w used (mainly) and the burning program.

In some stage I had to upgrade and downgrade the f/w depending on what brand of media I found in the shops.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
