Ok, I'm in the middle of the newyear cleansweep, getting rid of all the collected junk, magazines, CD's ... you name it.
While going through all the "unnamed" CD's I found a CD stacked with old photo's.
Going down memory lane viewing all the photo's (for about 30 minutes) on my notebook, I noticed the sound of the CD-ROM drive getting louder and louder, as if the CD was out of balance and hitting something inside the drive.
When finally I decided to copy all the photo's to my harddrive to make a compilation I saw an error "unable to read from drive", at that point the CD stopped spinning. I took out the CD (it has a sticker-label on it!!) noticed that the shape of the CD had changed, it looked like a hollow bowl/dish. I think because of the heat building up inside the drive the disk is expanding but the label "glued" on top of it prevents that side of the disk to expand > therefore the hollow shape.
The CD-ROM cannot focus on the outer part of the CD and stops reading.
Could this be the same for heat building up inside DVD players and the problems with labeled DVD's?
ps.
Waited for a few minutes and the CD was readable again.

Did/does anyone have the same problem?
Do you think the problem described above may cause reading problems on DVD's with labels stuck on them aswell? -
That has been my theory all along.
Labelled dvd's that played flawlesly, and many times, a few month's
later would stutter and stall towards the end.
Removing the label enabled the disks to play perfectly.
They have all been memorex paper labels placed with a stomper
unit.
Perhaps a thinner or plastic type label would work better.
I, like many others, have switched to the sharpie marker.
It is just a shame that I have such poor handwriting. LOL
Maybe I should take up calligraphy.

To tell you the truth, after my experience I'm even more affraid to use labels on my DVD's, but ... if you have used labels from bluckbuster I'm willing to give it a try.
What brand are they? -
www.americal.com
They have a super-thin "no wobble" label that works excellently. I have labelled about 80 movies with them, and they have not failed in any DVD Player yet, even the first ones I did many months ago. -
POSSIBLE?...NO... PROBABLE
