I am guessing WinDV or DVIO won't work with W98?

DVIO works under Windows 98 (and SE) and up.

I use it all the time w/ my advc. However, there is a FAT32/4gig/18min limit under non-NTFS setup (W2K/XP only have this feature)

I'd like to find a DV app that will "segment" my caps. Freeware that is.
No shareware. I read elsewhere's that you can get vdub to work w/ DV
to capture (transfer via firewire) but I think that it was just a hokes (IMO)
since I tried to no avail.. so don't be fooled that vdub works w/ DV - - it doesn't !!

There is seanalizer (spelling) that can do "segment" (I've used it) but it's
also shareware, and has limits as well as a logo. So, this is not good either.

DVapp doesn't work under Windows 98. I've tried this also, under my gold
version. I think it might work under ME and up though.

I can't think of any other DV app for plain old Windows 98

For now, I continue to use DVIO and just live w/ the 4gig/18min limits
until I find another freeware app that incorporates some form of "segment"
capping ability - - vdub was my last hope.

    Good luck,

  5. when i use DVIO error states "could not find DV output pin" with my cam on & hooked up, do you think i might be the firewire cable? im using 4pin to 4 pin config. do i have to use the 4 pin to 6 pin cable?( i have both 4 pin & 6 pin slots available) thank you again.

    hi jakol,

your DV issue could be any number of items amiss. I know. I have 2 pc's
that I use mostly for capturing and encoding and things like that.

On one of my pc's, only my Canon ZR-10 will work via fiewire (FW) but that's
    it for DV devices.
    .
    .
    on another pc, everything works

In my case, its a matter of FW card I have in my system. These two pc's
I was dicussing are both equip w/ same mobo..
    * ESC K7S5A / XP 1700+ and 1800+ w/ Windows 98 (gold) on both.

In my 2nd pc (working FW one) it's using the card by Pyro. My other pc I
believe, has the one from Pinnacle DV Studio or something like that.
The Pyro card words great though, w/ DVIO.

Under Windows 98 (Gold) (not SE) you have to find a driver (unless your
software app installed one for you) In your case, I think your SW did install
such a driver. So, I think it's just a matter of finding out which FW card you
    have in your given pc.
