What is causing the barely visible translucent line that is seen when I use the ATI All In Wonder 9000 Pro to watch tv on my computer ?

This line is very apparent in the capture that I've recorded on certain channels. How can I eliminate this translucent line ?

    Thanks

Ok; perhaps I need to be more precise.

When watching cable and broadcast television on my computer through the ATI All In Wonder 9000 Pro; there are 2 not quite visible translucent lines about 2 inches apart scrolling up the television screen.

These lines are also visible when capturing as well.

This problem is visible on MOST broadcast and cable channels; although the problem does NOT exist on a few channels.

WHAT is CAUSING this to happen; then, HOW do we FIX the problem?

    Thanks for any help.

  3. Can't say I'm an RF expert, but here is a few guesses ...

Power signal interference. If they move real slow, it may be the difference from 60HZ power and 59.97 frame rate. Check your cable ground is tight. Also, you could change power wall sockets, or you could get a better 'filtered' power strip for your computer. (I'm not sure that last does squat but they hype them for AV equipement)

Also, you could go to Radio Shack and look for all of the cheap filters you can find (about $5 a pop if I recall correctly). They go on the cable line.

Well, I'm all out of guesses.....

Thanks for your advice. Others have suggested that the problem may be cause by GROUND LOOP HUM; whatever that may be. Apparently that usually results in an AUDIO HUM; which I don't have; but the ground loop hum also may result in VIDEO interference; such as I'm experiencing.

It's funny that none of our TV's are experiencing this problem; just the computer with the ATI AIW 9000 Pro card. So; sure; it could very well be a problem with the power and the screen cycles. I have no idea.

Another poster suggested that I find a RF STOPPER; whatever that may be..it's apparently used to stop interference of this nature.. I'l have to do a search for it.

But: for now, I'm gonna try to plug the computer into another power strip. See if that will help matters. If not; it's back to the drawing board !

Thans again.. Will let you know what happens.

Its most likely ground loop interference,i had it with my captures till i made a ground loop isolater i made as described by someone else in another thread,Get 2 fm adapters non shorting and strip the two leads on each adapter and wire together so that the cable in goes to one end and cable out goes to your vcr or capture card.

There was a very cheap solution in the post I refered to.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

    Thanks; you guys rock... 8)
I'm planning to visit Radio Shack this afternoon, to see if they have any of those cheap filters that LordSmurf suggested..I CALLED 'em; they said that they do have some RF Interference filters..but I dunno if what they have will slove my problem..

I honestly have NO expertise in this field. so I can't imagine how to make one of those filters that ya'll were talking about; even though you did say how to go about makeing 'em.

My wife is the Computer Techie around here...maybe she can follow the instructions you've suggested.

Thanks much for all of your suggestions.
