  1. I'm going to upgrade my system to P4-1.5GHz. Can anyone advise how much rdram I should install to bring avi-to-mpg encoding time to minimum?

    Thanks

  3. Rdram...Pc800 is very fast, so id say that you can get away with 256mb. I dont really do any DVD ripping right now, but just to give you an example on how much ram i use....P3500 -256mb Pc133, P3800 384mb Pc133, P4 1.4 256mb Pc800, AthlonXP 1.53 512mb Pc2100. I really dont see an advantage in getting more ram then 512mb unless you are doing some heavy graphics work

  6. Thks for yr help. I currently use P3-500 with 256mb ram. It takes me abt 8-10 mins to convert 1 min avi to vcd mpg which is way too long for me.

Does ram have anything to do with encoding? I don't thinks so...isn't it your CPU that does all the work. I just upgraded my Ram to 2 sticks of Corsair PC150 256MB CAS 2 Ram. Great for overclocking also....running my 1.2Ghz TBird at 1.333 right now with old PC133 Ram...but with the PC150 CAS 2 ram..should get 1.5 - 1.6Ghz no problem.

  8. 256MB minuim with using PC133 if you can, Ideal is 512 of PC133. I am using a 1.2 Thunderbird with 266 bus and 512MB PC133 Ram with great editing power. Make sure you are also using a 30-40 gig hard drive at 7200rpm, you really notice the difference from 5400rpm to 7200rpm.
