  1. Hi all

Im pretty new to backing up dvd's. I hardly ever watch the extras on dvd's and im not 100% happy with converting them to still pictures (in dvd shrink) becuase they still take up 500mb of space that could be used for less compression for the main movie.

Is there a program out there / or method that would allow me to take out the extras leaving everything else intact. Im not bothered about menu editing so the links to the extras can be left in there if needs be, but i do want to keep the origonal menu structure fully working.

Ive tried the re-auther in shrink but the menu's didnt work.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

If you don't want extras, I see no reason why you even need menus. It is SO easy to make a movie-only backup without menus. The best thing to do is to use DVD Shrink to process and compress the movie-only and remove everything else you don't need. Why make the process more difficult than it needs to be by removing extras but insisting on keeping unnecessary menus? Keep it simple, and have a much more consistent success rate.

  3. Its great for movies but series like friends, simpsons etc menu's are needed i think.

The only way i've managed to do it so far is using dvd decrypter to copy the movie files with ts_xx_0.ifo and ts_xx_0.vob which copies the movie with 0.ifo 0.vob (menu) files and then run this thru dvd fab menu creator and do the sector fix and burn it. It works but the movie plays first and i would have to buy dvd fab.

Look into DVD Stripper. There are also manual title stripping guides from 2COOL you can dabble with too.

Clone DVD 1.3.11.2 let you identify and exclude extras while preserving menus. Just download the demo version from www.elby.com and see for yourself. Excellent backup quality.

Nero Recode 2 .... does a great job

just select what extras you see ... and hit disable ...

The DVD S.W.A.T. ... has 5 trailers on it ... I disabled all of them. Replaced with a pix ... Not Available.

SWAT also had an extra about the old TV show SWAT ... I disabled it too.

I plan on using a different Pix ... that is more attractive than a simple pix showing a yellow background with the words "Not Available". I whipped it out in a hurry ... typed it in a word processor and splashed a yellow/greennish color for the background.

Thinking about using a desktop wallpaper pix of Farscape characters John and Aeryn ... smooching.

  8. If I were to use dvd shrink and uncheck some of the extras such as subtitles and other audio languages would the menu still be intact?

Yes that is correct, but you can't strip anything else unless you do movie only...

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
