For some reason....something keeps changing my start-up page in Internet Explorer. I'm running XP Pro.
The startup page keeps changing to this:
    res://mshp.dll/index.html#10213

Does anyone know how to stop this from happening? I've tried the Google Toolbar to stop popups and have installed Spybot - Search and Destroy and also ran several clean-up options with Norton Uninstall....and this damn thing STILL keeps showing up.

Any info on where and what this thing is in my computer will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks...

Get AdAware, or some other spycatcher.

You've installed or been attacked by some program that takes over the homepage.

I only found one reference to it on Google and the site was down. You could do a search for it in your windows folder and delete it. Probably in Windows/system32. I have found ones like that you can't delete because they are in the registry and just reload. Spybot does have a place to lock IE from changes, it's under the immunize window.

    Thanks for replying....
There is a MSHP.dll in my c:\windows....but I really don't like deleting .dll files...thats IF it really is a dll file.

I tried to block out changes to IE with Spybot.....this bastard STILL shows up as my start up page.

Ad Aware did nothing to solve this problem. I actually caught a virus once from Ad Aware downloaded from cnet. I had a clean version of Ad Aware....THAT is the one that did nothing.

okay, try this - rename the file to mshp._dl, and move it to another directory like "my documents".

    reboot.

run the programs you normally run, and see if anything seems hinky. if something doesn't work right, move that file back, and change the name back.

if everything runs correctly, and if the symptoms disappear, you can safely delete the file. or keep it quarantined just for paranoia's sake.

AWESOME.....everything seems to be working OK now. The CWShreder thing found one item not pertaining to the initial problem....which I believe had gone away....but I can't be sure. I tried renaming the mshp.dll but it didn't work and it is still there. I guess I'll just have to be brave....bite the bullet and use Spybot's Shredder to get rid of that little bastage.
Good thing XP Pro is almost crash-proof (in my opinion so far).

THANK YOU again to all of you for the help, links and advise. At least now if someone else has this problem.....Google might now show 2 hits for other people searching for the solution to this problem.
