  1. I have an mpeg file and playing it in windows media player. When I try to skip through the file, it just resets back to the begining of the file. It wont let me search through it. Is there some way I can get around this, or am I outta luck?? Should I use a different play?? Any help would be nice!!

  2. It sounds like it isn't an MPG file but a windows streaming file (.asf OR .wmv) . Try loading up the file into a program that will not accept ASF files and see if it pops an error. Or use asftools, load up the file and use the repair option 'make seekable'.

Usually ASF files are the only files that go back to the beginning when you try and seek.

If you use asftools you may have to install a Windows Media Encoder which is easy to find.

  3. Ya the Media player sucks for MPEG2 palyback. I usually drag the mpg into Windvd, it has a more robust playback. I think PowerDVD would as well.

    Hope this helps.
