  1. I often record shows that I want to watch later. At present I take the AVI file from IUVCR (recorded in MJPEG format), feed it into the Mainconcept MPEG2 encoder and encode to DVD format. Then perhaps remove commercials using Womble and then author/burn to DVD using DVD MF 2.

Works okay but is pretty hands on for each step.

Tried to do it all in DVD MF 2 - that is, import the AVI file, use extract video to remove the ads (this is painfully slow since when you move the cursor to position the image, the image display lags behind by a second or so and this is on a Athlon 2400+ with 1G memory), then author to DVD. MF2 has to encode the video in MPEG2 format before burning but it works. But the process is really slow - MF2 MPEG2 encoder seems much slower than even tmpgenc so to take an hour's TV show to DVD can take upwards of 2 hours after all the processing. To compare encoding an hour of AVI into MPEG2 using Mainconcept on my machine takes about 70 minutes, editing in Womble about 10 and the final burn about 15 so about 25 minutes faster

Any other ideas on ways of doing this automatically?

    Thanks

    Larry

Just encode as usual then feed the files in tmpenc dvd author then edit the commericals out easily and output to dvd compliant files ready to burn.

  3. That saves using one extra program - one to remove the ads. I have also used Virtualdub to remove ads and frameserve the output to Mainconcept. What I was looking for was a one program solution which MF2 is but is intolerably slow plus its MPEG2 engine has few controls and is not that high quality

Well i wouldnt recommend anything less, then you lose control of what you are doing, well for me anyways.I do use dvd2svcd to make my 1/2 dvd`s and go to tmpgenc dvd author and use nero to burn.
