  1. Hey

    I've been messing with Movie Factory and Video Studio. So far I like the MPEG2 captures i'm getting but one thing I dont like is that I can't seem to find an option to show if I dropped any frames or not. I dont have time to play the entire movie to see if I dropped any or not before I burn to DVD.

    So my question is. Do any ULEAD programs show how many frames you've dropped during capture?

    Thanks

    Video Studio 6 does, Video Studio 7 does not. I really like VS7 as opposed to VS6, but like you, I miss the dropped frames display. I was told there was a way to edit an .ini in VS7 to bring up the display, but the file doesn't exist that version, or my Search function in XP can't find it.
    Hello.

    Hi boys,

    To have drop-frame counter in VideoStudio 7, here's workaround to make it
    come back.

    Please follow the steps below:
    1. Locate HerCap.ini file in the C:\Documents and Settings\All
    Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\7.0
    2. Open HerCap.ini file and add "ShowFrameNumber=1" below [CAPTURE_SETTING]
    section.

    EXAMPLE :

    [CAPTURE_SETTING]
    ShowFrameNumber=1

    3. Close and Save the ini file.
    4. Launch VideoStudio 7 and go to Capture stage, you will see the drop frame
    counter.

    Note: 1024x768 display area will make the drop-frame counter not show very
    well on the Option Panel; however, you still can see it. The drop-frame
    counter will be showed completely when the display area is changed to
    1280x1024.

    Have fun,

    Zetti

    That did it! You slam dunked it Zetti! You were right, I can see Total frames capped okay in my present display, and total dropped frame display is showing half of a zero, which does not matter to me, I know it's a zero. Thanks!

    Hi Tommyknocker and friends,

    I am glad I could help - specially you Tommy, that a while ago replied to a post of mine teaching detailed instructions on how to make some basic editing on VS7, so, I owed you that

    Actually, these instructions were sent to me personally by Ulead staff in Asia, that's a great Company, good software, stable functionality,

    Let's hope that when they release VS8 they take back the counter properly again and add AC3 functionality;

    I don't know about MF2 - I have it, but only use it to import DVD discs, it's a few of sw out there that has this functionality;

    I really prefer to make my authoring job on more advanced tools like Maestro or DVDitPE;

    Happy 2004

    No, not really, just a thought....

    For me, that's a good behaviour from Ulead, they don't keep releasing bug fixes and upgrades daily, once you have something in your system, you are sure it's good, they only release something new when there's really a NEW function to add;

  10. Hi All,

    First of all, many thanks to Zetti for the info. If you guys consider the drop-frame counter in VideoStudio as a valuable feature, please take a time to make a feadback for VideoStudio 7 on Ulead wabsite. This might encourage them to put it back in the next version.

    Does anybody else has problem with Overlay video in VideoStudio? I mean the qulity of the overlay movie is very bad specially if you decrease the size to 20% or so . I noticed that the overlay video becomes unclear like the time the "Mosaic" filter has been applied. This also applies to the hi-resolution (5 M pix) pictures as an overlay specially if they are in motion. Any input would be gladly appreciated.

  11. Thanks for the help Zetti. It worked!

    Oh, and I tried adding the same line to a couple of the Dvd Movie Factory .ini files but no luck. Works on the VideoStudio tho. Good enough

  12. Ulead Media Stuiod Pro is a great program and I used it for a lotta years before moving to Adobe Premiere. That said, Ulead MSP has always had some issues with relaitvely low quality on the effects. In MSP 6 using hte hue/saturation filter to change the video produced infamously bad (unwatchable IMHO) output. Adobe Premiere doesn't suffer from this, but
    more to the point, the superb VirtualDub and AviSynth allow the same kinds of special effects and/or video manipulation, but with much better quality than Ulead MSP.
    I'd stick with AviSynth for doing overlays and that sort of thing. Other htan that, the only other serious option is to move up to Adobe After Effects, which can be bought reasonably cheaply used on eBay. After Effects does a fantastic job and the video output quality is superb. You can pick up an older version of After Effects for around $150 to $125, so this is real option.

  13. As far as AC3 goes, VS 7 has it (sorta) hidden.
    From the review comments section https://www.videohelp.com/tools.php?tool=79
    This came packaged with Ulead Movie Factory 2 with my Pioneer A06 DVD burner. I've historically hated Ulead's products dating back to Video Studio 3 and 4, but i have found one very worthwhile use for this program. (In the bundle, at least) it can encode 100% compliant AC-3 (Dolby Digital) 2.0 audio. It didn't do this originally, but entering the lines:
    PlayAC3=1
    DecodeAC3=1
    UleadAC3Encode=1
    ADVANCE=1
    into, well, basically any section of the *.ini files that come with the program, especially the [MPEGVIO] and [VIODriver] sections of UVS.ini and DVDMF.ini . this will enable advanced settings in the SE version under the MPEG-2 template options, making this an almost usable program.
    I tried it, and it works!

  18. Here is a clip from my uvs.ini file.
    Code:
    [MPEGVIO]
    mpegdll0=uvMPEG2.dll
    AudioReadBuffer=0
    MPEGActiveDriverNum=1
    MPEGActiveDriverName=Ulead MPEG vio Driver,
    ; Added
    PlayAC3=1
    DecodeAC3=1
    UleadAC3Encode=1
    ADVANCE=1
    ; End Added

    [VIODRIVER]
    UleadVideoPlay=1
    UleadVideoDecoder=1
    UleadAudioPlay=1
    UleadAudioDecoder=1
    UseOnlineMuxing=1
    MotionEstimate=20
    NoOverLayMixer=1
    ; Added
    PlayAC3=1
    DecodeAC3=1
    UleadAC3Encode=1
    ADVANCE=1
    ; End Added
    As far as captring-- well I only capture and edit DV then I encode to mpg/ac3 later.

    As far as crashes-- I'll admit I just discoverd this trick and only 1 test, so my sample size is pretty small.

    I'll keep yopu poted if I see different results.
