  1. Hi All,

I have an AVI (MPG 4 V3 Codec) that is causing me no end of problems. I am trying to convert it to DVD compatable. When I place the file into TMPGEnc I get an error "You Need DirectX". I have ver 9b installed (and many other codecs). When I place the file into Virtualdub so that I can cut a new audio file and new vid file, I get the following error "No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format (this was using the full processing mode) I then tried to save the wav using direct stream, which worked and the wav plays fine. I loaded the newly created wav and avi into TMPGEnc and sat around for 2hrs 30 mins. The m2v plays fine and the mp2/mpa says it's playing fine but there is no sound at all.

I know that the error messages are self explanatory but I am still lost. Why does the file play fine with sound when it is an AVI but when I try to convert my system says it can't because there is no codec for it.

The summary on the file tells me nothing so I can't see what it is trying to play.

Is there any software out there that I can grab that will help me.

Is there anyone that could offer me some advise because they have experienced the same thing

    Many Thanks In Advance

  4. Well, it's kind of helped.

It has told me what codec it is but tells me that I have 4 compatable codecs installed.

Are codecs any different to decompressors? Just wondering if it's a different thing all together.

    Thanks

  5. Something new....

I found another program that created and m2v and an mpa of the original AVI.

Both play fine without any hitches (including the audio mpa)

I loaded the files into IFOEdit to author new DVD, all went well. Burnt to DVD-R, played it, picture is perfect but again no audio what so ever.

Anyone have any ideas on this please

    Thanks

  7. Hi,

Yes, the audio plays fine as an mpa.

According to GSpot the coded used for audio is....

    ac3 (0x2000) Dolby Laboratories, Inc

Again, according to GSpot, I have three compatable codecs installed on this machine and four on the other machine.

To add, the program that I used (Cucosoft) made and m2v, mpa and a mpg file. All play fine with audio, it all seem to go wrong when I IFOEdit the files. I have played back the vob's,bup's and ifo's and there is no audio. Yet I get no error from IFOEdit.

I am going to look at converting the mpg file now to see what I get.

    Thanks

  8. The plot thickens.........

Amongst my frustration yesterday, I decided to add some codecs to both my machines, just to see if this would iron out this problem.

It did, Virtualdub would now accept the file and allow me to create a new audio & video file. I played the wav on both machines and it works perfectly (on both)

I loaded the 2 newly created files into TMPGEnc and set it off to create seperate video and audio files. After completion, I tested the mp2 on both machines and it works fine. I changed the extention to mpa and tested again, again it worked fine on both machines. This time I decided to use Ulead DVD Workshop to create my VIDEO_TS folder and files.

Upon completion I tested the files and again, picture perfect but no bloddy audio, again!!!!!

Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on?

I wouldn't mind if this was the first or second time I had done this but, I must have about 50/60 converted files on DVD that work fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many Thanks

  9. Hey Buddy, I've just spent the lasr 4 days with almost the same problem. After much searching here's what worked for me. Tmpge author seems quite picky about it's input files. The avi i was converting had ac3 audio as well, which tmpge says it will accept, but like you it processed but had no actual audio. First i used virtualdubmod and extracted the audio from the avi to an ac3 file. Then i used ac3tool to convert to a wave(something in this programs conversion, with the default settings, created a wave that worked). If i extracted a wave directly from the original file it wouldn't work. Anyway, then i used tmpge(not dvd author) and loaded the video from the original file converted to a m2v. Then dvd authored the m2v and the wave. Finally it worked for me. Hope this helps
