ATI AIW Radeon help for newbie

I am a newbie and need some help if someone can spare the time. I have an ATI All- in-Wonder Radeon card (no numbers after the model...an older one). This model is no longer supported. I have the original CD software and that is it.

I recently ran a windows update and it updated my driver to an ATI 12/2003 driver that screwed everything up so I uninstalled everything.

I reinstalled from the CD and it works but is version 7.1 of the Multimedia Center. They have newer versions out there but their site is so confusing, not sure what supports what, and what order to install things in. They chanegd software and named it catalyst and WDM and I am not sure what these are. To further complicate it, the newer software out there only supports newer cards.

What I am wondering is, can anyone tell me the last software that supports the ATI All-in-wonder radeon? What are the file(s) and how should I install them? In what order? Should I uninstall my current stuff or just overwrite it, etc? Oh, I have windows XP. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

I run that card on a windows xp computer (I have ATI AIW Radeon on one computer and ATI AIW Radeon 7500 on another). Just go to ATI.com and hit "Drivers" and follow the prompts.

    Windows XP/Graphics Driver/Radeon Family/Go
    Then Download:

    Display Driver,
    Control Panel,
    WDM Capture driver Download
    1 of 1 22.5 12/17/03 1 package

They give you a choice of downloading all that in one download are in three parts. If at all possible get then all as one. Then you don't have to worry about the order of install. It just does it itself.

Before you run that go back to ati.com and follow the prompts to get MMC 8.1 (Whatever the latest is).

Now uninstall all the ATI stuff on your computer. It's really confusing when your computer re-boots and starts installing ATI stuff automatically. I think you just go ahead and let it. Then run the Display Driver/Control Pannel/WDM package that you downloaded. Then install MMC

I got a warning about not having a DVD player and another warning about not having something else (I forget). Turned out to be unimportant and all works fine.

If you get errors that prevent you from installing the new stuff you may have to do a complete uninstall of ATI. Basically you have to remove the back up files for ATI that are hidden on your computer AND disconnect from the computer so that your computer can't install the wrong ATI drivers before you get a chance to install the right ones.
