Almost Happy Newbie

Hi, this is my first post as I’ve just got my first DVD Rewriter for Xmas.
I got the Optorite 0201 which installed perfectly. I upgraded the firmware
to 2.30 and have so far backed up four of the first DVDs I ever bought.
They all came out perfectly using CloneDVD & AnyDVD which I had
already bought in preparation. Each disc has taken roughly 2 hours to
complete but I’m happy as I’m in no hurry. Unfortunately I’m having
trouble with audio CDs. Nero 5.5 won’t recognise the drive at all so
I can’t choose it, and when I tried Gold 5 that came with the drive there
was an atapi error. I tried a basic Audio CD shareware program and it
worked fine but it’s not very user friendly. Does anyone know if later
versions of Nero work as I love using this but don’t want to waste money
if it won’t work. Thanks in advance.

Interesting. If Nero does not recognize it, does it display the image burner?

Nero 5.5.9 doesn't like 4x burners (didn't exist when it was written). The last release of 5.5.10.x should be your best bet to get your drive recognized. I think going to 6.x requires an upgrade fee?

Also, make sure you have the latest ASPI drivers (comes with Nero?).

What is the exact version of Nero?

And does DVDDecryptor recognize the drive?

It's version 5.5.5.7 bundled.
Is there anyway I can upgrade for free or should I just pay the full amount for version 6? Thanks.
Also, I can't comment on DVD Decryptor as I don't have it but CloneDVD
and AnyDVD work fine. It's just that I'm used to Nero for audio CDs.

You should be able to upgrate to any pre-6 version for free, *but* you said that it's Nero 5.x bundled? Don't forget that the version of Nero that ships with a drive will usually only work with that drive. I couldn't tell from the way you worded it, but that could be the problem right there. If you're using your CD drive Nero with your new DVD burner, it may not work.

You're absolutely right. After some digging it says this software (Nero) will
only work with the cd writer that I have removed to make way for the DVD Writer. Thanks for all the help. It's much appreciated.
