    Hi,
I have been trying to encode a 22 gb .mov file to dvd with no luck. I have had great results doing a 10 gb file. This morning just finished 42 hours of encoding in mpeg2enc, and when it was done it said that it failed. I decoded with quicktime. I thought I saw somewhere on this forum, an entry about large files and the encoder to use, but now I can't find it. This is the third time that I have tried to put this movie on dvd. If anyone could help me, I would really appreciate it. Happy New Year!

  2. If it failed, you should post the process output (click the blue "i" icon) as it could contain information allowing to explain why it failed.

Since I closed the progress window, I can't get that information now. Can you tell me if there would be a problem encoding a file that size. Should I be using a different encoder or decoder? I can try to encode it again, but it won't be done for another 42 hours.

  4. I don't know of any size limitations about the input .mov file, as long as Quicktime Player is able to open and play it from start to end. I would suggest to try again and the next time keep the process output.

O.K. Thank you, I will try again.

  6. By the way, why the file is so big? How did you obtain it?

It is an interview that I videotaped...I editied it in imovie and exported to quicktime. The interview is an hour and 48 min. long. I recorded the family history of a couple that had been married for 48 years. I already gave them 3 vhs tapes, but I want to preserve it on dvd.

    Major,
I just finished encoding my 22 .mov file. It worked fine. I found out that somehow I had exported to quicktime with the audio file set at 22050 instead of 48000 khz. One question though....the movie was split into two VOB files. The VTS_0_1.VOB is 1,023.9 MB and the VTS_01_2.VOB is 926.7 MB. Is this what I should have? I brought both files into Sizzle. When I burned the DVD with Toast, I only have the first half of the movie. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Which program did split into two VOB files? If you use ffmpegX to author, it should create a VIDEO_TS folder and you don't need to use Sizzle in that case. If you use Sizzle to author, you should import the elementary m2v and mp2 streams on it and not the VOBs.

I used the ffmpegX to endode it, and I guess I used it to author it because it created the TS files. I was confused, and I then brought the TS files into Sizzle to author. So are you saying that I can put the TS files that ffmpegX created into Toast to burn? Ater I posted my last post, I tried to use the mp2 and m2v files from ffmpegX in Sizzle. Everything seemed to be going well, but after burning with Toast, my DVD player couldn't read the disk.

Yes. ffmpegX should create both a .DVD/ folder and a ".dvd.img" disk image file as a result of the DVD authoring process. You can either burn the first one in DVD mode or the second one in Disk Image mode. Do you use Toast 5 or Toast 6 to burn?

I use Toast 5. With the TS files....is the audio file always zero bytes, and do I have to drag it into Toast also?

  13. Don't bother about the contents of the TS folders. If you want to preview them, use Apple DVD Player. To burn, just burn as they're built by ffmpegX.

You have two options to burn:

1/ If you use Toast 5. Select "Other > DVD". Drop the .DVD/ folder on the window. Burn.
2/ You can also use Disk Utility. Drop the .dvd.img disk image. Burn.

    Hi Major,
Thanks so much for all your help. I can't believe how simple this all was, and I was making it so difficult. For some reason, I had an understanding that I had to combine the audio and the video in Sizzle because ffmpegX wouldn't be able to do it. I am not sure where I got that idea. Anyway, I was able to burn the whole movie by doing just what you said. It came out perfect. I guess if I wanted to add chapters and titles I would have to bring the elementary streams into Sizzle for that. About the disk image, I haven't seen ffmpegX create that yet. It is creating the TS files, but not the disk image. Is there something that I should select if I wanted to use that application?
