  1. Has anyone figured out a way to join a flipper disc (half of the movie is on each side) and still keep the menu and extras?

DVD2One has the Join feature but does movie only.

DVDShrink - same thing, movie only using ReAuthor method.

Before you condemn me, I did search the forum Before I posted and had no luck.

If it matters, I am doing Goodfellas.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  2. great guide on how to do this here

mainly you rip both sides of the disk into two separate folders to your hd.
load up both and join using tmpgec dvdauthor.
load the new files up into compression program like dvdshrink, dvd2one, ic8, etc.
burn newly compressed files onto disk

Thanks for the post. I gave that method a try but it is still not what I am looking for. Again, I would like to keep everything that is on both discs to one disc. That is trailers, cast notes, etc.

So I guess we can add TMPGAuthor method to the rest of the list that will not do this.
    For everyones benefit;
TMPGAuthor = movie only, No second audio, No subtitles, No menu.

Anyone else have an idea, or better...something they have tried that I am looking for??

Let me point out that this is Practically impossible despite the guides.

If you are assuming a DVD10 right? That's pretty simple to do. Althought I've only ever come across one of these.

But a DVD18 (Dances with Wolves Special Edition) can't be done and maintain the quailty. It's just too big (16 GB total as I recall).

Let me point out that what you want doesn't actually exist even in your mind. The trailers and extras aren't on both sides. You actually have menus on both sides you don't want to duplicate because they don't apply.

You can keep all the menues on the first side and the main movie. That's pretty straightforward. But any extras/menus on side 2 would have to be added by an authoring program.

Out of curiosity, what movie is driving you nuts?

    Thanks for your reply!
I do understand that certain parts of the discs (trailers, extras) only appear on one side or the other but not on both. Trying to get the same exact menu does seem impossible.
From your post, looks like I will have to take each individual set that I want to keep and use an authoring program. Creating my own menu with links to each set.
    Am I right?

I'm willing to give it a try, any authoring prog you recommend/like?

You posted that it was pretty straightforward to keep the menu from the first disc, how would I do this? Sorry for seeming like a fool, but I did not find that info posted anywhere on this site.

btw, the movie is Goodfellas, about 7.5GB.

Is it a DVD10 or a DVD18? I'm a little confused about that. It does make a difference in how you approach it.

If you read the guide to the new DVDlab pro , it makes multiple
titleset DVDs by first authoring one part completely and then adding that
to a second project. This may be a clue that you may be able to
make a top menu with 2 buttons where each button connects
to the original top menu of each side.

    Just speculation here

You might be on to something here. I'll look in to it. Hey, it never hurts to try huh?
I've never used DVD-lab before so it might take me a while to get a result.

For everyones benefit, I'll post my results when I have them.

Topicstarter, I am facing the same dilemma as you with Goodfellas. The movie is split on both sides. Unlike you I am only interested in the main movie with untouched audio and some subs. The problem is joining both sides to 1 MPEG. I will try with DVDshrink now and see what I can do.

Either DVD Shrink or DVD2One will work for you if you want just the movie.

DVDShrink in ReAuthor mode will create 2 title sets (one from each side of the flipper disc) The playback will be fine, but the chapters will have the correct numerical value due to the 2 title sets. This method works well if you need to edit the ending of side one (ie, 'flip disc over' screen, credits etc)

DVD2One in Join mode as well as the Seamless setting will get the chapters in the correct numerical order. Non-Seamless setting will give you 2 title sets as did DVDShrink.

As for myself, I still have to find an authoring prog that will work for my needs. I must admit I am intimidated by DVD-lab so I have yet to tackle it. With any luck on my next set of days off I will get it!!

This is just an ugly ugly thing to try to do.

For example, many "flippers" put different extras on each side of the disc.

Now, if it's just a matter of the MOVIE continuing to the other side of the disc, that's one thing.

But honestly, all movies like this have since been deep-sixed from my DVD collection. I think the last one I have is Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and there's a nice special edition of that out now that is dual-layer.
