  1. Hello. I've just got a pioneer a06 dvd burner today. I was wondering about the best compression to use. DVD Shrink is compressing the movie %53.. but will the picture look bad after?

How the video will look is a matter of taste. On a small CRT TV the quality isn't as much an issue as if you have a new big screen HDTV. If you are worried about quality, I would remove the menus, extra audio streams, subtitles, extras, credits, etc... This will often get you to about 70-90%, and will show a noticeable difference in quality, especially in darker scenes.
You can also use the deep analysis which will be slower but often gives a better final product. There are guides on this site that will walk you through how to do about everything with Shrink. I tried to make this as simple as possible. Hope it helps.

  5. Won't look great or will look shithouse? lol
One confushing thing with just having the movie is that. Main Movie: has 2 parts. Previewing them they both look the same.. but just coding 1 without compression, I relise the the 2nd part is the 2nd half of the movie.
So how do I get just the movie? Just do both parts at the same time? How much compression so it still looks good?

One more thing. Mums friend at work had a prirate copy of Saving Nemo and the picture looked fine and still had extras on it. That would've been compressed alot to fit? How come it looks good still?

  6. if you want just the main movie, you can select "reauthor" using dvdshrink.

when you choose reauthor, a new blank dvdshrink window will open up.
drag and drop the main movie title/s to the new window and then click on backup.

Guides are your friends. This website has tons of information on how to backup your dvd's. read them, use them, love them.

here's one on ripping and shrinking: http://forum.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?s=c009a79527cdde5202f475c3d671b49f&threadid=77122

  7. Is it normal for just the main movie to be more than 1 DVD-R or even more than 2?

  8. no, most "main movie" only backups can fit onto one disk.

    Austin Powers Goldmember Widescreen.
In DVD Shrink it says Mainmovie: title1-2 and if you 'reathor' then drag the title1-2 accross both are about 3gb each.

  10. is one in widescreen and the other in full screen?

  11. It seems one is the 1st half and the other is the 2nd half when I've put it onto my hard drive. But when you use the preview thing.. they both look the same *CONFUSHED*

  12. well why don't you preview the first title and fast forward to the end to make sure it contains the entire movie and not just half or part of the movie.

try posting a screenshot if you know how.

  13. yeah thats what i'm saying. I've gone to the end of the 1st title and found the credits but when I reathor to computer and preview, it shows as only half the movie. Get what I'm saying. Its very confushing

  14. If I remember correctly when I did that one it has a WS and FS so I just chose one of the 2 and burned it to DVD. The end result was DVD about 3gigs. Pick up a DVDRW disk so you can write to it and if it doesnt come out the way you want it erase it and do it again. DVDRW will save you a lot of money and fraustrations in the beginning. Good luck and let us know how it comes out.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
