  1. when backing up ps2 games, does anyone notice any difference in compatibility when recording with different media types. i have an older model ps2 and i'm using a flip top and swap disc method with backups. when recording different games i see that some games play differently. that is, some games work perfectly, some don't boot up, some do and freeze and some play good some of the time. i just wanted to know if there's any certain brand of media that works well with ps2 backups. or maybe it's just my ps2 (cuz i have an older one) or the swap disc method, or just the game itself.

  2. i also have an older ps2 and use a fliptop/swap magic disc to boot backups. before i bought a dvd burner i bought some backups online about a year ago.... they are -r princo and they still play well to this day. since getting my burner last week, i have tried booting games using 4x memorex -r , 4x fujifilm +r & +rw, and sony -rw. the only ones that work were the fujifilm 4x, I've heard ritek is the best for ps2 so I orderd a sample pack of inkjet printable riteks +r a few days ago and im waiting on them to arrive and we will see

  3. From my experience and friends - riteks seem to be the best compatible on all models of ps2's. I use BeAlls but they wouldnt work in my older model v7 ps2 .. I recently bought a v9 ps2 the + model with progressive scan dvd support and upgraded laser for dvd-r/+r support and BeAll work fine.

    Princos 1x2x4x fine.
    Riteks G3/G4 fine.
    RICOHJPN fine.
    Verbatim non-CMC DVD+R fine.

PS2 is fairly forgiving, most discs about 2GB in size.

Since you have an older model PS2. Have you cleaned your laser lately? I installed a DMS on a V4 US console for a friend and couldn't boot anything. I tried using a cleaning disk that had those little brushes on the bottom, but it didn't help. It wasn't until I took a q-tip with rubbing alcohol and used that. It now boots 100% with all backups. Also I've noticed with my v7 with a DMS also installed that anything burned over 2x sometimes gives me problems. I usually use Princo's.

  7. well, my ps2 previously was getting disc read errors, so i recently cleaned my ps2's laser. my ps2 still takes longer than usual to start reading normal discs. so far, i've backed up suikoden 3, nhl2004, ratchet & clank 2(twice), and killswitch with tdk-r's. only killswitch played fine and nhl booted but doesn't play well and the others don't boot. someone else backed up some games with memorex +r's (don't know exactly which ones) and i saw mixed results. so if there's problems, it could be blamed on the media mostly?

btw-quadforce, what was the site you used to buy the backups?
