I'm attempting to remove commercials from a tv program recorded on my PC. I have an HP media pc. I understand you move the start marker..and the end marker (in the timeline mode) to the section you want removed..but for the life of me...I can't figure out what to do to actually DELETE or CUT that section. I'm really not as dumb as I sound. HA! I've been a graphics designer for some time..but have never used video editing software and have SO much to learn. I've done lots of reading here..and have downloaded, installed and used some of the recommended software. I've managed to learn a great deal..but have a long way to go! I can't tell you all how much I enjoy and appreciate this website. It's been a HUGE help for me!
Any help with this problem would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I'm not sure about "Showbiz software" as I have never used it but with most consumer level video editor like Pinnacle and Ulead, it's a simple matter of just clicking and deleting the clip you do not want. By clip, I mean that the editor will take you captured AVI and break it up into clips at points where there is an abrupt change of content such as in a cut to another shot. These clips will appear individually on you timeline in the order that they were created. You can delete, trim, move, switch and basically do whatever you wish to them. The final set of clips can have transitions and effects added is you want as well as music. Once you are satisfied, you render to MPG-2 if your final result is a DVD. Once that is done you take the resulting MPG-2 and "Author" it to DVD with an Authoring program This will add navegational menus, scene selection. etc. Most ontermediate users will prefer to use dedicated programs for each function although there are some progrs that will do it all for you. Sorry if I got to long winded. The simple answer to your original ? about deleting a scene is , YES, it is one of the simplest things you can do assuming you have a good editing SW.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

I use Showbiz and like it very much. To edit, you find the beginning of the scene and then lock it with the slider bar on the left, then find the end of the scene and drag the slider bar on the right to lock it. That gives you one segment. You must then drag the orginal file to the storyboard, and find the beginning and end of the next scene which crops that segment. You now have two segments. Keep dragging the orginal file to the story board and cropping segments until you have a string of segments in your story board that comprise the entire video.
You can then save it. This works best with uncompressed AVI....compressed files are hard to edit.
