  1. I have ripped a DVD and I didn't get the motion settings correct, so now I have distortion wherever there ids movement in the video file. The distortion appears as several horizontal lines specifically located around quick movement. It isn't completely overwhelming, however not desirable to watch either! So my question is the video file completely permanent with this distortion or is there a way to remove these lines by re-encoding, re-sampling, or some measure of repair available to a amature digital video manipulator like myself? I do hope so as the videos I ripped w\ this issue are no longer in my posession and doubt that I will get oppurtunity again. Besides that is alot of time wasted if I would have to start fresh again! Please help me. If there are any programs available, any processes that I can salvage these DVD rips with, I would greatly help out w\ any service I may be able to offer to the generous individual who can reference me to a "HOW TO", or explanation on how this task can be achieved! Thanks for your time!!!

  3. The file type is mpg2. It has not been altered since ripping it from original DVD. I thought I had the settings to appropriate positions enabling a quality output file. I guess not! So are you saying that if it is the original file and has not been removed from my hard drive, that re-encoding will clear the picture of the wavy horizontal lines?-(nopunintended, or just redundant?) I really want to know if I should give up trying to save these wavy video files? I will try to post a snapshot to show what my problem looks like exactly.
    Thanks Again, -SSF-

  5. The ripping software is ImTOO DVD Ripper 1.0, I have AnyDVD 2.0.0.4
installed as well, - it enables all regions to be played\ripped w\ your DVD reader\writing software. Now if I want to edit, make menu's, chapters, or perform other final DVD authoring, I use DVD Complete and Moviestar both from DAZZLE. My extension on the distorted file is .mpg, - .mpg2 is what I wanted the finished filetype to be, so I would not have to convert the file when putting onto disk. so yes the file is an .mpg. My options were to rip the DVD into AVI, DIVX, VCD, or SVCD. VCD was set as default, I adjusted it to SVCD(.mpg2)I did this to the best of my ability,- giving that the instructions and help file were hardly defined as that. If I use tmpgenc, What are the settings I'll need to adjust when re-encoding?

This looks like a filed order problem. Which ever program makes the mpg file, is there any option to change the field order?

    Regards,

  8. Filed order problem??? Ermmm.... Um I dunno about that so much. Are you referencing for future DVD rips, I was really trying to repair this file that is already existing on my computer. I am not familiar w\ field order at all, is this a setting that can be changed to save this video file, or is it a setting that should be set to appropriate position before ripping the DVD? ImTOO DVD ripper does not have this as a feature to change within the programs' settings. Please if you would like to explain more about this feature please do, as I am trying not to scrap this file. PLEASE HELP!!!

As said, this is an interlace problem but it is supposed to be like that. It most definately isn't a field order problem. A TV uses interlaced video so the file will look perfect on a TV, a computer monitor doesn't so you will see the problem. If you have a TV out capability, try connecting your pc to a TV and watch the ripped file on that. It will look perfect.

You don't say what software you are using to watch the file. Some file players treat interlaced video correctly and others don't (Media Player is pretty appalling!). I would suggest you use something like PowerDVD to view the file. This treats interlaced video correctly and won't give you the jagged edges.

  10. Hmmm.... Well so I have gathered that this is probably most maybe a interlacing problem, and that I still haven't given all the components in which I am using to run\view\process the given faulty file in which I am wondering how to repair? Up until now I have been using Windows Media Player or Winamp to watch this file, also including DVDCompletes player to preview video file before burning to disk. I did try using my video out option to view on television and still the wavy lines!!!!! Is it just me or am I not getting the appropriate info across to recieve the help I am requesting here? I have everything that I can think of to get what I am using, watching and\or encoding with, so that troubleshooting this dilemma of mine is resolved. I do not really intend to sound so irritated, I certainly appreciate the comments I have already recieved. It is however frustrating having dialup internet access, and trying to multitask between different webpages to get help and so forth, I am just complaining now so I will stop and apologize. Sorry -SSF-
-Recapping- WindowsMediaPlayer, Winamp to view video file.
    - AnyDVD for region free ripping\viewing.
    - ImTOO DVD to rip DVD into .mpg2 filetype.
    - Moviestar, DVDComplete, Vegas4.0 If editing.
    - HP's Record Now, Nero 6.0.0.15

  11. I have the same issue, but only with analogue cature from a VHS. I captue with the Dell stuff by the way and use Roxio software.
Looking at the AVI on the PC it looks fine. When I make the movie (2 hrs in total) in Studio 8 the mpg2 file looks good. When I burn the DVD and when I watch it my TV I have the same issue as above. So with horizontal movement the are horizontal distorsions.

    What can I do?

  12. Yo - Bro, I Dunno!
I wish I could help you out, and hopefully somebody has by now. I am novice at best, so I am in this very experimental stage as well! Only suggestions I can offer, make sure your computer is clean and defragged and the likes before processing or burning, its shit like so that can have an effect on your finished product, and not seem like the culprit! Anything else I tell you would be just educated guesses and if you read the related articles in this forum it would be about the same. Sorry I wasn't much assitance! -SSF-

  13. I had treid to create a movie also from a DV this afternoon and guess.... Perfect DVD. So I think the problem is pointing into the direction of my capture device. I will try to make a movie again, but now with another program and see what happens.
Until that time I am open for any suggestions anyone might have.

  14. What are you using to do all this with? I have a Dazzle Video Creator 80,
it is very useful to me. If your using anything similar, It may be that your drivers for your capture device may not be current. Also you said it looks fine in the .AVI file but when you try to watch it after it is encoded for DVD(.mp1 or .mpg2) it has all the distortion. It is limited to where the movement on the video occurs (peoples arms, asses, hands, legs, etc)? Do you get the opportunity to view the file before it is burned to DVD SVCD, or VCD? Again what are you using to view the finished video on? These are all the things I can think of! If your video recorder is questionable run it straight into TV or VCR. This will give you answer if your thinking it might be culprit (as the video will be fuct here too). Well goodluck, & patience!!! -SSF-

  15. I have just captured the start of Batman Beyond. It has a lot of horizontal and vertical movments in it. To capture it I use Roxio VideoWave Movie Creator. Normally I edit the avi in Premiere or Studio 8 and it looks fine on the computer. After burning the stripes appear.
Just as a test I editted the movie also in Roxio VideoWave Movie creator to a AVI and I noticed that the capture AVI is 245Mb big but the rendered AVI is 404 Mb big. I have burned it to DVD and it works now.
I am now busy with rendering a bigger movie of 30 minutes, and I am curious what happens.

Now I think of it capturing DV is done with the firewire port and directly in Studio 8, so no Roxio there.

My capture card is a Dazzle PCI card with breakout box. I have read somewhere on the Dazzle homepage that the product is no longer supported by them anymore (cannot find it back) but only by Dell. And guess what, you cannot buy it anymore, there is only the digital video capture on Dell's website. Is this a sign?

  16. Hmm..
Well Im glad you got to some point of knowing whats up with the source of the distortion. If I use Vegas4.0 to encode a file that is already encoded (not knowing what filetypes here, just in general) I will get lots of these motion distortions, It has to do w\ interlacing setting on program your using to re encode. If you play w\ small file sizes w\ different environment settings, you find different results. I say yes it occurs when you try to encode the already encoded file. Look at settings carefully, "they" have it setup so your settings don't make much sense to average individual, thus making it difficult to know what finished product will be! Try to find a program that rips directly to desired file type. I have been looking around and there are just too many ways to go about similar tasks - some user friendly others for experts only I guess! Anyhow gotta run, Ciao 4 Now! -SSF-

I would reread what Richard_G posted to you,use either windvd or powerdvd to view the files, interlaced files are supposed to look terrible on a computer monitor but play great on a home dvd player,no need to fix or fuss with anything.

  18. Finaly I could burn the file and it now looks great (as far you can speak of great with a VHS source)
Now the question is what is the difference between the captured AVI and the rendered AVI (except for the size which is increased from 6GB to 9Gb for 30 min of video).
Superspeedfreak, thanks for helping to order my thoughts, in this way I was able to isolate the problem.
