  1. I've done a lot of DVD rips to VCD, but I would like to create avi files as well from the rips. I'm a bit unsure about the method once I make the d2v file. I would imagine that I need to use VirtualDub to create the avi, but as for the codec, do I go to divx or to a different one? Maybe I'm over complicating the procedure, but I want to make sure that I'm on the right track. The avi files I create would not be converted to mpg, just kept as avi's to share with friends that do not have dvd players but want to watch them on their pc's. If I'm way off base I'd like to be put in the right direction.
    Thanks in advance!

  2. For goodness sake use DiVX! An uncompressed AVI of a DVD rip will be huge (~75GB). While you can make a nice DivX file ~650MB and burn it to one CDR (I haven't noticed any problems playing DivX files from CD-ROM).

Take a look to the left under convert for more info. But you've got the basic idea:

    1) Rip DVD
    2) Use DVD2AVI to generate D2V and wav
    3) Apply VFAPI codec to genereate 'fake' avi
    4) Load VFAPI AVI and wav in VDub, apply all filters and choose DivX compression
    5) Save

  3. Thanks for the reply, that's about what I figured, but I wanted to make sure. One other question/problem. When I go to do the compression in VDUB it does not list the DIVX Low-Motion codec. How do I go about getting that codec? I installed the Divx 4 installer, the Kristal Studio Pack and the smr patch, but I must be missing something.

    Thanks.

  4. divx is nice and all, but what about the angel potion codec i've heard both great and horrible things about the codec. (All ive had were great things (dont ask me how to make a nice avi not quite sure how do that myself))
