i have a ati radeon 9800 pro video card 128 mb and i'm transfering vhs tapes to mpeg 2 format to copy onto a dvdr. after the vhs to mpeg 2 transfer the video file reads as ati file player, not mpeg in my windows directory and can be open only with the pinnacle 8.4 program which is the shits that was bundled with the ati 9800 video card or ati dvd player. is there an authoring program that can open the ati file player files as i have tried a trial version of dvd-lab and tmpgenc but it can't open the ati file player file?

I'm not aware of another authoring program, however I seem to recall an option in the ATI Multimedia Center "Library" tool that allows you to convert .vcr to .mpg. To avoid having to deal with this issue in the future I would suggest you switch your capture settings to mpeg output instead of .vcr files.

yes...stay away from the .vcr extension...it is apparently only "useable" by ATI...if your mpg files are actually "*.mpg" extension, then you can right click and "open with" <insert program here>
My system also automatically "associates" all mpg files with ATI File Player...(even though I have "told" it not to anymore...it won't listen...)
