    is it possible to covert an AVI so it can be burnt to dvd and be played on a compatible player, if so how is this done?

    correction there are none for AVI to DVD

    Take your avi and convert it to mpeg using TMPGen. Then you can use TMPGen Author or another authoring program to burn it to DVD.
