  1. I have purchased what I thought to be some quality DVD -r discs.
    They're Datasafe branded.

I've tried using Nero and I've tried burning an image using Alcohol 120%.
    Nothing seems to work.

I have an Iomega dual DVD writer.

    What am I doing wrong?
Would it help to use a different burning program?
    If so which one?

Also... another subject... someone told me that you should never install software that comes with a DVD writer... since this will lock the writer to only use certain brands of blank DVD's.

Is there any truth in the above?

Any help (especially to the first point) would be really helpful.
    Thanks.

  3. Thanks for the reply.
I've tried other media (good brands) and they work fine.
I bought 25 of these DVD -r's. I got them about 6 weeks ago and have only got round to testing them now!

All may not be lost on these.
Try using them for data and movies, below 4gb, as it's very often the case that cheaper dvdr's will fail, when burning to the extremities of the disk. It's all to do with the dye being a bit thin/unevenly spread on the outer edge.

  5. the prob is that the writer wont even see the discs!
    i can't even write 1mb!
i spoke to live chat from iomega yesterday...
and they're saying that i should use the software that came bundled with the writer. i'll give that a try and see if i get any where.

    thanks.

  6. Hmmmm. I doubt if different burning software will make any difference. If Nero & Alcohol wont burn them, I reckon it might just be a bad batch of disks.
If you are burning ok using Grade A disks, I would leave well alone, as having too many burning programs installed is not a good thing. Conflicts may occur and make things worse.
