  1. Until now I was working with avi files that had ac3 soundtracks and I pretty much mastered the way to deal with them using Vdub---Ac3fix-----and finally TDA to combine it with the .m2v file.

Now How do I go about non ac3 files, as I was reading that audio encoding in Tmpgenc is not recommended and TDA will only accept ac3 or PCM audio formats for dvd burning.

Do I need to extract sound from avi files and then save it in .wav format? How do I convert to PCM?

What is the best way to deal with these files to burn them on a Dvd.

TDA will accept AC3, WAV and MP2 audio so you have a few choices.

You can use VirtualDub to extact the audio from the AVI file as a WAV file, then use a tool such as ffmpeg to convert the wav file to either MP2 or AC3.

  4. In virtualdub goto audio>full processing mode. goto conversion settings make sure its 48000 hz stereo 16 bit, if not enabler the ocnversion.
    Click file>save wav.
Then encode using besweet or headac3he

If I am saving the file as .wav then what is the need to encode in Headache? I thought it was used to convert AC3 files to wav.

Can a file with regular soundtrack be converted to AC3? If so I can use ac3fix to run the audio extracted by vdub through it.

Or open the avi with ffmpeggui and convert directly to ac3.

But note that ffmpeg/besweet ac3s may not work in a few dvd players.

  7. I extract the audio (of course many apps will do this - VDub is good) and my audio is already 48000 hz, but I know there are numerous programs to resample, if needed and there is a "donate ware" plugin for Nero at http://neroplugins.cd-rw.org/ , if you have Nero. You can then use Nero's Wave Editor to convert to AC3. I have been using this method for the past couple of weeks, and thus far, all seems fine.

Thanks Man. The process you suggested is very simple, I will try this first and see if it works on my DVD player.

    Thanks all.
