Have seen it referenced in a few posts but cannot find anyplace that explains what changing a book type does or how you do it. If I'm reading it correctly, only a few recorders have this option.

It allows you to change the bitsetting on a DVD+R/W to DVD-ROM so 98% of all players will recognize the disc but it only works on some drives(BenQ,NuTech,Lite-On,Ricoh and NEC).DVD-R doesn't need the bitsetting because it has it built-in.

Thanks. Obviously my TDK doesnt have it. Is this something that can be added with new firmware? (If the manufacturer desires).
Never mind, having read StudeBarc's nice article, it kind of answered my question. This is definately something all manufacturers should include. Wish I would have learned about it before I bought my TDK. -
