Just when I had my heart set on a Canopus ADVC product, I head over to their forums and see threads about compatibility issues with Windows XP SP1 and other OSs.
I was wondering if those on here with the 100 or 50 model use Windows XP and if they have had any problems?
Cheers.

Have had a 100 and XP for some time.
Have I had problems? Yes. But eventually the source has always turned out to be something else - poor video drivers, a flaky firewire interface chip, a cable gnawed on by a pet bunny (who I keep threatening to make into stew but the rest of the family won't let me), etc.
FWIW, I've tried a number of other devices as well (ATI AIW Radeon, Hauppauge USB PVR, etc), and I can tell you I have been most satisfied with my 100 - particularly in terms of workflow as I can bring the 100's DV capture directly into VirtualDub after adding the Panasonic DV Codec.
YMMV,

Is your XP with Service Pack 1 as I have read this is where the problem lies.

Up until about six weeks ago, yes. I then got a new Media Center XP which is basically XP SP1+. However I was using a similar setup on the older machine.

I have a fresh install of xp with service pack 1 (2 weeks ago) and the canopus ADVC-100 is recognized right away and doesn't have any problems with ScenalyzerLive.
What type of problems were they reporting? -
I bought a new Dell desktop with Win XP Pro installed and the PC would not recognize the ADVC-100 at all. Canopus believes that it is an issue with the pre-installed Dell software image. I reinstalled Win XP immediately and that fixed the problem. Even doing a WinXP Repair Installation should fix the problem. I've never had a problem with my ADVC-100 ever since.
Canopus is working on a fix that eliminates the need to reinstall Win XP. Check out the ADVC-100 forum at

for lots of discussion on this very topic.

I'm using my new (Christmas present) ADVC100 on a
Compaq 6016US running Win XP Pro - Version 2002 - SP1.
Mobo is basically an Nvidia NForce2 that steals some of
my memory for video. Usable memory is 736MB. Processor
is (upgraded) AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (1.66 Ghz). Loads of HD.
ADVC100 works like a champ. Pumps about 13GB/hour of
DV AVI data into my machine with zero frame loss.
