  1. I've noticed when using the Fuji discs my wife gave me with the Panasonic E60 I got for Christmas that when I record something as one program, when I play it back on my Sony Dream System it has a hard time towards the end of the disc. It starts out fine, then near the last few chapters, it stutters and the chapter skip causes the machine to lock-up.
I haven't had this problem when recording a disc with 10 or so titles.
I also bought a 5 pack of Imation discs and these so far worked great. No problem playing back on my other machines, even towards the end.
I guess I'll just use the rest of the Fujis when I make discs with a bunch of titles.
Anyone else have problems with Fuji discs?

I recently bought a Samsung R4000 and it is technically the same as a Panasonic E50. The unit kept resetting itself, so I returned it and got another, and the same thing happens. Tech support can't figure it out, and I have been using Fuji discs in it, since I have used their dvd-rs and cd-rs for a while with no issues, but I was beginning to wonder if that was the problem, and tonight I am going to pick up a different brand and try them out, before I trash the deck.

I have the panasonic e80H and used to have the e-20 I ALWAYS had trouble with those damn fuji dvds. Then I switched to comp usa 1-x dvd-rs and I never had any problems since so try those and you will see the difference. And finally you can buy them for 19.99 for 25 discs or 50 for 44.99 . Check their website they are on sale every 2 weeks..

  4. New problem. With the Imation discs, out of the 6 or 7 I've used so far, with two of them, when I started recording, after about 6 seconds, the machine shut down and said "recover". After waiting, the screen said hit enter, it shut off again, then said hit enter. When it came back on I took out the disc. It looked OK, so I put it back in. Then it recorded fine, finalized too.
    What's up with that?

The FUJI DVD-R discs that come in a 10-pack package with each DVD-R disc in a full sized CD style jewel case say MADE IN JAPAN on the package and are Taiyo-Yuden brand. This is about the BEST DVD-R media you can buy.

However the other FUJI DVD-R discs that come in spindle/cake packs say MADE IN TAIWAN and are NOT Taiyo-Yuden brand. For a while they have been RITEK G03 discs.

Some say the RITEK G03 DVD-R discs are OK but you simply cannot beat Taiyo-Yuden DVD-R discs for quality and reliability etc.

  6. The Fuji discs that I'm having a problem with are the ones in the 10 pack, the made in Japan discs. But I must say I have no problem with them on the E60. It's just when I play back the discs on my Sony Dav-S300 that towards the end of the discs, the player freaks out. Though my Xbox has no problem playing them back through the end of the discs. I guess everyone's different set-ups and playback units make it that much harder to find the "perfect discs".

My guess is that the problem is not the MEDIA but probably the Panasonic. I say the Panasonic is at fault and not the SONY because it is well known that many DVD players do not like DVD-R discs recorded and finalized on the Panny stand alone DVD recorders.

  8. So are you saying I have a defective machine? Or that its a problem that returning it for another e60 would not fix?

I'm saying that ALL models of Panasonic stand alone DVD recorders "author" a disc (i.e., record then finalize) in a fashion that must not be 100% correct to the DVD spec because there are a number of DVD players that have issues with such discs.

So either play the DVD-R back on the DMR-E60 or buy a DVD player that won't have issues playing the discs, such as a Panasonic brand.

If you want you can record to DVD-RAM then import to the computer and use a computer authoring tool such as TMPGEnc DVD Author then burn to a DVD-R or DVD+R using a computer burner. This method will make a compliant DVD.
