  1. Hello,

I have created a "home movie" DVD where I spliced a number of MPEG-2 files together using TMPGEnc DVD Author. It works well on my Canadian (equivalent to US) standard DVD player and TV.

Now I would like to send it to my family, most of whom live in England. I believe that I need to convert from NTSC to PAL, but are there any other convertions that are necessary? Also, I have TMPGenc 2.something -- can I use this for all the necessary conversions, or will it require more processing.

    Thanks

If you've never done an NTSC to PAL conversion before....and you would like the relatives in England to see the people on the DVD while they(the people on the DVD) are still alive.....just send the NTSC disc. Converting video standards is a total PAIN IN THE A§§.
Your disc should already be Region Free....and most European DVD Players can run NTSC discs. I lived in the US and now in Europe....DVD players(and TV's) here are MUCH more tolerant to non native discs than American DVD players.

Another possibility if you're really crunched for time could be to send a CD ROM with the MPGs (may have to shrink them depending on size) and let the relatives view them on the computer. Not the ideal situation, but maybe the least time-consuming.

Or, if your DVD-R/DVD+R works in their computer and they have a DVD ROM drive, just send the disc "as is". The computer will be able to play it since it's not region coded (most DVD ROMs have firmware that can be changed only 4 times or so -- not a problem for home movies though).

  4. Just send the disk or a copy of it..
Here in the UK most if not all dvd players will play NSTC and so will most TV's.
Seems we are less restrictive on being able to view other formats.
