I have a 1.4 Gigaherz Athlon with 256MB DDRram (266 FSB), a 7200 rpm harddrive, and all this is running on Windows 98SE.

I have downloaded the latest version of DVDx (1.5a). The VOB files are already ripped to my harddrive. When I try to convert them to Mpeg1 (VCD) the program calculates an estimated remaining time of 30 hours. When I change most parameters from "high" to "good", it still estamates 16 hours of remaining time.

For the same movie (Dungeons & Dragons)TMPGEnc calculates appx. 4 hours with best settings.

    Is this normal?

  5. Sorry, no help here, as I have the same problem, but with a slower machine...

I just did the same with a 90 minute movie on a Celeron 500, 256MB Ram, 40GB 7200rpm HDD, and with all the settings on medium it took about 18 hours, and estimated 30 with everything set to high.

Also, after doing many VCD's copied from video, with 45 minutes per VCD, I thought the quality of this conversion was pretty poor, with noticable blocks.

  6. xzarkad, sorry for late reply, i'm not quite sure why that is occouring to you, as i've got almost the same system (1g/266) and both TMPGEnc (12 versions, not 2.0) and DVDx 1.5a (which i'm actually using at the moment) run at the same speed (approximatly 3 1/2 hours for 90min movie).

I would suggest you check BIOS settings and optimizations, and make sure you select MMX+3DNow in DVDx.

  7. I agree with Sefy, because I have the same system, a 1Ghz Athlon C T-bird and with only 128Mb SDRAM, my system also takes the same amount of time as Sefy's Machine . Did you have this problem before you installed the new DVDx?

    Sefy:
I did not select MMX+3Dnow, I will try it once again with those settings. I also will check my BOIS settings.
    PCGuy760:
I did have this problem before....at least not with TMPGEnc. In TMPGEnc it takes me about 4 hours (I can do it faster, but I am frameserving throught Virtual dub for resizing and subs)

  9. Yup, that would explain why it was so slow, DVDx author said that for AMD machines to select the MMX+3DNow, as the MMX alone is only for the Intel machines.

    Sefy,

I have tried it with the MMX+3Dnow settings. That did it, and now it just takes a few hours to convert.
    Thanks,
