I am considering getting the ADVC-50 since the ADVC-100 is out of my price range.

Also, I do not need the "video and sound out" features since I only need the footage on the computer and DVD.

However, I have two questions that need answering:

    1) Can you remove macrovision from the source, how?

    2) Does that fact that its internal affect the quality. These fears come from posts I have read suggesting that the computers internal components create INTERFERENCE.

Or are the AVDC 100 and 50 both exactly the same in "capturing" video AND sound?

    THANKS!

The answer I need is, do the ADVC 100 and 50 models create exactly the same results.

    Or is the 100s better?

Does the 50 suffer from any inteference?

One tip: wait more than four hours before expecting a reply and responding to your initial post for a second time.

  6. I love my ADVC 100 but I don't know about the ADVC 50. Try posting on the Canopus forum.

  8. TheGame7:

With the ADVC-100 you CAN disable Macrovision.
With the ADVC-50 you CAN NOT disable Macrovision.

As for harware they are both pretty much the same....they use the same DV Codec from Canopus and results are great!!
One advantage of the ADVC-50 is that you DON NOT need an additional firewire card since this port is already built in.
If you are not going to convert from digital to analog and don't care about Macrovision go with the ADVC-50 otherwise the ADVC-100 is a great buy.
Never heard about interference with any of this units.

    Cheers for the info.

I looked set to purchase this item until I entered the support forums on their web site.

There are major problems with ADVC 50 and Win XP with SP1

    and ADVC 100 with Direct X 9.

There do not seem to be any permanant fixes at the moment nor any time soon and contacting their support (via e-mail only for UK customers) is a lenghty process.

  10. Remember that most people who visit support forums are there because they have a problem and need help. Most people with success don't write in to say, "Gee I just love my *** and have never had any problems with it."

Canopus' reputation for quality is rock solid in this industry.

I for one have had ZERO problems with my ADVC 100 and Direct X 9. It works perfectly for me, and I use it all the time.

  11. The ADVC-50 will remove Macrovision, but only if you remove Jumper #6 on the card (undocumented feature).

    and also

    2)
If you get this card and get darkish images when capturing (or previewing) bought VHS tapes, they probably have macrovision.
You can disable macrovision protection by removing the last "reserved" jumper on the card WHILE CAPTURING A NON-MACROVISION TAPE !!!!
If you do this while capturing a Macrovision tape, capture will be dark, even on a non-macrovision tape.

Remember, you bought the Macrovision protected tape and want a backup on DVD (or (S)VCD), for your own personal use, so this is fully legal.
