  1. I have two parts of the same home movie on two different tapes so I captured them via hardware capture to mpeg2. I need to combine the two mpeg2 two files into one mpeg2 file. Any suggestions?

If they are the same format and quality you can. It can be done w/TMPEGEnc. Use the MPEG Tools, unfortunatly I often have audio/sync problems when I join files. I prefere to leave them as two files instead.

There are other tools too, check the Tools section on this page.

  3. I join files all the time and it's easy. TMPGEnc can do it but I don't usually use that great program for that purpose.

Your video files must have the exact same frame size, bitrate and frame rate, or you will need to reencode the video to do that. Not a good idea.

If your files are the same and you setup the application properly then Ulead VideoStudio can splice video files together without reencoding the video using "Smart Render". That is a fancy name for 'direct stream copy'.

Use the program that gives your desired results and one that you like using and find easy. ok This is supposed to be fun (?), however strange that may sound.

    Good luck.

If you are sticking them on DVD why not use Tmpeng Author? I did this with 2 home movies and stuck them both on one disc.

    They play as one movie.
    Yeah Baby!

  5. http://www.doeasier.org/ has some excellent products,
Easy Video Splitter, etc and in your case Easy Video Joiner.

I've used their products many of times, very easy to use and never
had any problems with the results.

If I remember right, that program doesn't allow joining when the MPEG-2 file has PCM audio. There was some reason why I couldn't join my 720x480 MPEG-2 files with that program. Unfortunately, I'm stuck using Adobe Premier Pro 7, which re-encodes the files when I'm done joining and cutting the ends. So, I capture at 8 Mbps and have it re-encode to the target bitrate. It seems to do the job ok, but I'd prefer another way that doesn't require a re-enc.
