  1. First things first i tried using the forum search and none of the threads said how to copy it. So, I have been trying to make a backup of my Saving Private Ryan dvd but every time i try to do it it gets half way done and says that theirs a "cyclical error" or something like that. I have tried dvd shrink, Clone dvd, and dvd2one, and none have worked. I am also running Anydvd while doing this. If anyone knows of a program i could use or any way to copy this dvd please let me know.

  2. Try using DVDXCOPY EXPRESS. Lots of people knock it. I've had no problems. If you just want a back up of the movie this is the simple solution, don't bother with the Gold, Platinum versions and all that crap Xpress is easy.

  3. Try ripping it to the pc first with dvddecryptor

  4. What process are you folowing to attempt to back up the DVD. I have never known a problem with DVDShrink.

I usually re-author the disk to my harddrive taking just the basic movie and sound with compression as close to full disk as possible. I then use Nero to burn the local DVD file (VOB etc) into the required VIDEO_TS directory.

At what stage is your error occuring? During re-author?

I find it best to start playing the dvd before ripping so as to verify the files, otherwise you might get cyclical redundancy errors. If you have done that then your dvd reader has problems reading certains discs. My samsung dvd-rom was never able to read a certain dvd but my dvd burner and home player can read and play it.

cyclic redudancy is caused by a ploblem with the media, you need to make sure there are no scratches, fingerprints, etc, on your disc

  7. I've had this before on a couple of dvd's. I looked at the disc and it had a few nasty finger prints on it. Turns out to be dirty discs, a good clean normally solves it.

Not much you can do if its a large scratch.

Cyclical redundancy errors are usually caused by poor burns but once in awhile its the cd/dvd reader thats at fault reading certain discs.
